Saw it last night... loved the way the actors evoked the spirit of the original actors...especially Dr. McCoy... dead on!

This should appeal to newcomers and fanboys and fangirls alike. I can't count the number of times we had "geek" moments when we'd hear a familiar Trek sound effect or a character would channel their original counterpart.

Just saw it last night, finally. I liked it quite a bit. I thought most of the characters were great, I even saw some of Shatner in the young Kirk character. Bones couldn't have been better, he was totally spot on. I didn't care for the Spock\Uhura thing. The Romulans were pretty cool, although I didn't really get their ship design. I always have issues with any sort of time travel. I don't think it's necessary as there is always enough material for an exciting story line with out it. I think the time travel thing opens up to many unknowns and issues.

I saw it last weekend. I loved it. Although i had doubts that Zac Q could pull it off, esp after seeing him in Heroes. I stand corrected! He had that quiet majesty that Nimoy brought to the screen.I almost cried when Nimoy came on. That familiar face and comforting voice. He is STILL gorgeous.
Question To the Uhura/Spock naysayers, Didnt they have a brief dalliance in the original series? In a cave, no less, something to do with time travel i think, and it was before the Vulcans gained control of their emotions and embraced logic??????
Forgive my vagueness, it must have been at least 15 years since i saw that episode.
            Any takers?
(AND yes, its because of spock, that today i have the innate ability to arch ONE eyebrow, ever so apty to express many a vulcan thought)
Didnt realise how much of an impact it had as a kid, untill i saw the movie and realised thats EXACTLY what i do...
Yes, id make a DAMN good Vulcan

Nah; Nurse Chapel had a thing for him. The cave scene was with a local woman who'd been sent to her world's past as punishment.

I think the only thing Uhura officially got busy with on the original series was Roddenberry......Oh, yeah...she flirted with Mirror Sulu a bit too....and then the Kirk kiss thing.

Ahh, ok with you now. Thanks ctc
Yeah i remember reading about Uhura and Roddenberry, apparently she was seen coming out of his office looking quite, em ,disheveled.
I can understand her flirting with Sulu, he was dishy, but kissing Kirk ? Nope.
