Yep, stuck in the 70s and proud of it!
I posted this thread before leaving for work, so I will now elaborate...
I don't share Rod's sentiments about the things he says he doesn't care about like the mythology, the ship, and the difference in the characters. I probably wouldn't feel the way I do if the original series weren't so iconic. The original 79 eps spawned all of this. This show is the reason that 52% of all Americans are Trek fans. Its characters, catchphrases and philosophy is the reason there are a whole sub-culture of those of us known as "Trekkies". We owe so much of what is today's science fiction to it. It's the reason why there are conventions as we know them. Watching those clips, I felt none of that. It didn't feel like Trek to me, just another one of the many action, popcorn movies that come and go all the time. It felt like a cheap imitation of of a show I've loved almost all my life, and I can't get excited about that. In my mind, there's only one Kirk, Spock, Sulu, Chekov, Sulu, Scottie and Uhura.
Call me close-minded, stuck in the 70s, whatever, I don't mind. And now that I've said my piece, this is the last I will say about this movie."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment
