They were only on the island for like 3-4 months and they did have plenty of food from the Dharma Initiative supplies so not a surprise that a fat guy is able to stay fat. Then when they left the island and went back to civilization and 3 years passed, there's no reason why he wouldn't still have the same eating habits so not too hard to swallow (no pun intended).

I love LOST.

Yeah for example there were Apollo chocolate bars in the Dharma food pantry in the hatch if I recall...And at one point, Hurley was in charge of rationing the food

Hector, oh my god I laughed my *** off reading what you wrote. I watched the first season but lost track of the show. I wondered the same thing also.

he was hoarding food hidden behind palm branches.....chips, crackers, you name it. Never put the fat guy in charge of food rationing.
I love this show....I've said it before and I will say it again, I think it is the best show to hit TV in decades.

I think in a previous season, Sawyer actually made a comment about his weight like "why aren't you losing any?"

I would have to go back and watch the earlier seasons but I think when the plane crashed, he grabbed a lot of food that was left from the plane and hid it so he could eat later.

As already stated when the food stash was found, he was put in charge of distributing food and again, hoarding food for himself.

This season, they return in 1977 as part of the Dharma Initiative and he is assigned the job of chef even though I haven't seen him cook anything but he has access to the food supply. He was packing vanilla wafers and all kinds of junk food in his get away bag.
