Maybe I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed the new POTA.

Of course it doesn't touch the original but I liked it nevertheless.

While I admit I'm EXTREMELY excited to see this Movie...the "hype" will not affect my opinion. Believe it or not, I'm as skeptical as Mike that My favorite Characters of ALL TIME can have their Shoes filled by other Actors.
While I read the reviews by mainstream Media...I'm more interested in what the Geek Community thinks(like "Ain't it Cool News"). But the final decision wether or not I think it's good...will be Mine when I walk out of the Theater.

The current TV Guide has an article about the new Trek movie and quotes J.J. Abrams.

He talks about how he never was really a Trek fan, but that he was a fan of Star Wars as a kid (the original trilogy, I presumed). I think he could bring a fresh perspective to Trek that could be fun.

I'll be there with a few geek friends!

                Hmmmm....

Lots of good press typically makes me really leery of a movie. My tastes tend to be very different from most people, so if most people like a film I probably won't.

                >A different incarnation would have been nice and thoughtful, something you don't see nowadays.

Yeah; for something like the new Trek film I'd prefer a new crew. When I see the established characters being dusted off for another go-around it smacks of marketing to me, especially since they've squished so many of them into the film.... and most of them shouldn't have met yet. Not according to the old continuity. Which is why I'd prefer a new crew.

Therein lies the problem. A non-Trek person had no business making this movie. Gene Roddenberry established what Star Trek is, and now JJ Abrams wants to re-make it in his own image. The first Star Trek movie was made by someone who didn't even watch the show, (and that was the worst one of the original 6!)

                  *sigh*

As long as there is not a civil war between fans of the old crew and fans of the new crew like there was with Galactica, I'll be fine with it all. Like all of the others: if I like it, then I like it. If I don't then I don't. My opinions are my own.
                      It's all good!

I do not go by any of the hype. Hype is just that. I am the type of person that will tell it how it really is and not the way that it should be. If the movies sucks then it sucks. If I see it and it is good I will say it is good and so on and so forth. Personally, I will just wait for the DVD to come out to watch this movie at a later date. Even before I do that it will largely depend on IF "a lot" of people say that it is good AFTER they see it in the movies. I am not really all that excited about the new movie myself. I am more of the original Star Trek series fan. Not to say that the new movie will be bad. I have not seen the movie yet obvisously so I cannot make a judgement based on something that I have not seen. I will say that I am approaching the movie with caution though.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

Some people thought that might happen when Star Trek The Next Generation first came out -- but Roddenberry had the good sense of having both Star Treks have almost nothing to do with each other.

I think they should have done the same with this new Trek movie.

If the movie is as good as what they say, it should be able to stand on it's own --- without the crutch of being a "reimagining" of the classic series.

Man, dial it down. I do prefer 5 to The Motion Picture. There were WAAAY too many slow parts in this one. I remember the first time I saw it was at the drive-in when I was 13, w/ the neighbors kids and their mom. We got SO bored, we left the car and went to the playground.
