If I had any doubts before, now I'm sure....I'm definitely NOT seeing this movie. 3 clips and I'm nauseated.

It reminds me of the Lost In Space movie.

For anyone who reads older Trek material they know Star Trek was based on "the human condition"

I don't see any of that in this movie.

I hear what you guys are sayng about the proliferation of wild
computer-based FX in this movie...but COME ON...any Trek movie
in 2009 would have to have that to survive and thrive---
my opinion is that Trek fans should be pleased at this approach
which virtually assures Trek's enduring successs--but I have a feeling
not every Trek fan is going to see it that way

In today's world, most movies are a pretty christmas wrapped package, but when you open it up there's nothing inside.

The sad thing is, today's generation don't even know there should be something inside that box.

I'm not saying this Trek movie ... I mean 99.999% of all new movies

Yes---we are connecting on the same level there Mike.

I want to be bold though--- and say that Trek producers will ALWAYS
be aware of this mindset---it'll creep in here and there---and
even tho' I don't DEMAND a "thoughtful philosophical spine" to all my movies
---I understand it's value and if there';s no Trek movie series around
to try to entertain---hopefully with some of the "deeper stuff"
                    involved...then I think it's unfortunate.

Personally, I'm excited there's a new Trek movie and a new chance
for Trek to be prominent on the pop culture landscape once again
regardless of it's 2009 trappings which could be more of a positive
                    than a negative.

"It is these differences between Spock and Kirk, and their complex relationship, that is at the heart of all that is best with Star Trek. Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner's portrayals of the series' most iconic characters are burnt into our collective consciousness, so for the writers, and the actors playing them, presenting them in a fresh way that avoided caricature would always be extremely difficult.

Yet scriptwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and of course Pine and Quinto who play the duo, succeed brilliantly in this aim and give the movie (and hopefully the ensuing franchise) its heart and soul. The pair are just perfectly cast. Pine looks and sounds nothing like Shatner, but gets right to the essence of Kirk's character with his combination of rough-shod charm and cocky arrogance. The actor looks like just another product of Hollywood's bland pretty-boy conveyor belt, but actually proves extremely charismatic and nails the part. "

Quinto -- most famous, of course, as Sylar from Heroes -- is even better. The film truly revolves around him, with his thoughtful performance effortlessly conveying the dichotomy that makes Spock so interesting: his infuriatingly logical surface persona that hides a barely suppressed well of emotion. When Spock and Kirk, who loath each other for most of the film, are together onscreen the film comes alive. Ultimately, the key storyline of the film is how Kirk and Spock actually became friends".

Ok so up until now I have been so not interested in this version of Trek, but I have to say I've really been won over. I just hope this movie is as strong and as faithful as the previews and early word of mouth have said.

                            I'm definately there now.

Don't let all the action clips released so far cause anyone to think there's no story behind them.I went to a convention this weekend and saw a couple of guys I know that have seen the movie.I asked a bunch of questions(I hate surprises)...they didn't want to say to much because they don't want to ruin my experience but they said I'll like it.I will say this.....like others before me have said...this is a Kirk and Spock story. You see both of them born, both of them grow up and both of them meeting for the first time.Spock goes back in time....things are going to change a little...hell all it will take is for Spock to make it known that Kirk has to do things different after he meets Picard and Kirk doesn't have to die...think about that?
