Lots of good choices here. I'm really surprised nobody tried to cash in on Trekkie-mania back in the eighties/nineties, and release his stuff in a box set.

Anyways, I remember a (Canadian made?) movie starring Robert Vaughn. I think it was called Project:UFO or some such thing? The story involved some kind of war between a couple of alien races who were hiding on Earth. One race had an underwater base.
The scene I best remember is an old farmer who was abducted. He was sitting in a room freaking out when this hot alien gal walks in and tells him she wants him to show her how humans pro-create, then sheds her clothes as the farmer gets a big goofy grin and starts giggling.
    Perfect late night goofball viewing!

At the SFX show, which I'm assuming you hit every year as well, what's the deal with those bootlegs at that Suspect booth? Are they worth buying?
I almost bought a couple boots from Suspect's booth at the Toronto convention last summer (I forget what it's called, the big horror/anime/comics convention). They had some cool stuff including Six Million Dollar Man season sets. I tried asking someone working there about the quality, but got a kind of vague answer, so I passed. I might risk buying a couple next time, the prices weren't bad.

        >You talking about the uncut Japanese TV Series or the cut-together movie dubbed in English.

Being a completist I'd love to see the tv show. And I'd love to see the MST3K version.

The guy there was pretty weird too, but he had some cool stuff back in the early '90s.
Yesterday's Heroes. He's only gotten weirder over the years. The last straw for me was when he installed the camera and speakers. Okay, I get the camera... shoplifters right? But the "Voice of God" declaring "No Reading" to scare the pants off the poor little kid who's flipping through a book is not going to win you any customers! Talk to your patrons like human beings.

I lived in the Annex for a decade and would go out of my way to not have to go there on new comic day after a while. It always seemed to be one of those stores trying to ride some trend or another. He now sells used video games and it's really dusty, overpriced and empty anytime I wander past.

Although to give him credit, when I first arrived in Toronto, he did have some really cool stuff. I picked up a huge pile of Micronauts, including all the aliens for seven or eight bucks each. He also had things like Mexican horror comics, which I found fascinating.

Yesterday's Heroes used to run by an older man, he was pictured on the mural around the corner, he was the guy reading a comic on the park bench.

It got bought out by that other guy and it went slowly downhill.

It will be interesting to see how Mirvish Village evolves. I was really sad to see David Mirvish's Books on Art going away two months ago. There used to be a movie book and poster store a few doors down from Vintage Video as well that had some cool stuff. Love looking at all the garage kits at Vintage Video, and it was great when Dragon Lady used to be upstairs. As much as I dig the Beguiling, they really did outgrow that space a while ago and probably could use more room. Ditto the Original Suspect. It's a real tragedy that the fire took out the bigger and better Queen St location.

I have not bought any boots from Suspect in a very long time, but back in the day, the quality really varied. For me, it was more about "better than nothing", but I know people have gotten really picky in this day and age of digital and HD. Back in the nineties, I was just happy to get 8th generation recordings of things like Mexican Wrestling movies, Hong Kong Action Movies and Japanese Anime.

Back on topic, is THE STARLOST available on DVD? I remember that it played constantly in the CanCon starved seventies (along with Rocket Robin Hood), but I haven't seen it since. It's the Harlan Ellison connection that kind of intrigues me about it.

Love looking at all the garage kits at Vintage Video,
A few of the good ones were painted by a friend of mine, if they use glossy day glow colours, the owner painted them.

I had a toy counter in suspect from about 91 to 93, if you saw Mego and Big Jim in there, it was me. LOVE those guys.

Yeah, Starlost is on youtube illegally I guess, as it is available now on dvd.
I'm gonna get it from my library, 'cause I think I'd only re-watch it once.

A lot of the stuff I went to Toronto for in the past is fading away.
It's probably just natural, as things change. And as I change.
These days, if I'm out nerding, I only hit Yonge and Queen.
I didn't know the Queen Suspect burned down.
Maybe the guys at Queen Video did it.
Dragon Lady was above Vintage Video?

I might take a closer look at those Suspect boots this year.
It don't look like SMDM is coming out anytime soon.

                  Anyway, back on topic.
Since we're talking about these flicks we can't have,
just what is the legality around such things.
I know that once something reaches the public domain
just about anybody can copy and sell it.

Now take something like Six Million Dollar Man.
Other than the discovision stuff and one videotape,
there has never been a N.A. release, right?
But they yank the full episodes of youtube
                  for copyright infringement.
Now, I could understand that if it was available,
but not making it available but stomping on the clips
                  people share seems childish.
I know there is some wrangling involved that is keeping
it off the market, but gee whiz!?

Oh yeah, back in the day, if you wanted to see anything like that, you had to settle for umpteenth generation boots. Back in the early 90's I got my regular fix of HK action films, Eurotrash and cult stuff from Mondo Video in Buffalo. The guy who ran the place (Mike Faust) did some tape trading with Queen Video, among other places, so he always got some great new stuff in stock. Back then, I didn't care about the quality, I just wanted to see really obscure stuff you couldn't find anywhere else (now I'm amazed with how much of those films you can find on official DVD releases these days, I never would have dreamed that a lot of those films would become somewhat "mainstream").

That's funny, TIME OF THE APES was the very first MST3K episode I saw. I was instantly hooked on the show. If you do torrents, someone has almost every single MST episode on Pirate Bay, and I'm sure TIME OF THE APES is one of them. I've downloaded some other episodes and the quality is pretty good. (can probably get it from DAPCentral too)

STARSHIP INVASIONS!!! Thats it! I havent seen it since the seventies, but it really, for a Canuck made movie of that era, wasnt all that bad! Might make a cool premise for a television series.
