    Question for Brits about language

I've been watching Life on Mars and Ashes To Ashes for quite some time now on BBC America and I always wanted to ask this question.

The character of Gene Hunt, played by actor Philip Glenister speaks with a slightly different accent then the rest of the cast.

His words are many times hard to understand.

BBC America actually subtitles only his dialog -- so i'm not the only person in the US who can't understand what he say's half the time.

It's weird because the other actor's accents are fine and easy to understand ... and they aren't even subtitled on BBC America.

My questions for you Brits ...

    1. What kind of an accent does he have ? .. and

    2. Do you have any trouble understanding what he's saying ?

    3. Are there any American shows or actors that you need subtitles to understand ?

    I'm no Brit, and I haven't seen the show...but I'm betting He's Scottish.

They should have sub-titled Dennis Rodman in Celebrity Apprentice.

I could not for the life of me understand what he was saying. Maybe being drunk most of the time didn't help with the situation.

            It's a Manchester accent.

I don't have any trouble understanding what he says but sometimes it's a bit difficult to Scottish and Newcastle accents.
