Does anybody remember in the 80s when that guy (I forget his name) somehow bought the rights to Matt Mason and started work on a comic and "feature" film?
Crazy rumours like Sybil Danning as Calisto started coming out and this guy apparently tried to claim ownership of people's collections because he owned the rights. This was pre interweb so I heard all of this 13th hand. Eventually Mattel released the lawyers but I wonder if he'll surface again now that a legit movie is in the works.

Yeah, I had a friend who was a pretty serious MMM guy back in the day and he said that a couple of collectors got threatening letters if they used the logo in toyshop ads and he had heard that this guy allegedly claimed ownership of somebody's collection. Really crazy crap.
I just looked it up and Sybil Danning was to play a topless female Callisto, sounds like a classy production!

In my opinion, Tom Hanks is about two steps behind Tom Cruise in the "thinks very highly of himself" category. I don't care for him anymore. Maybe he'll jump on Oprah's couch soon?

Wait a minute! The guy was married to Sybil Danning and he claimed he owned peoples Matt Mason toy collection. What a greedy SOB! I should think
being married to Sybil Danning the guy had already used up most of his lifetime supply of luck/good fortune so he had no call being a jerk about others toys collections.
If they re-make the toys, I hope they'll make them for kids and not collectors. Mine would have a field day with that as long as they didn't fall apart. although, my original one eventually had all of the wires break in him by the mid-70's.
As a MMM collector this is as big as the day Paul annouces new WGSH!
Hanks is all about Space and MMM was his favorite child toy. I think he'll do a good job on this. I would expect an updated version but I would also think we'll see a classic MMM toy as well. This possibly explains why Mattel has guarded the rights to this property some 40 years post production. That other Bozo didn't ever hold the rights in the true legal sense. He did file and the inital filing was approved but Mattel pulled some strings got it back very fast.
I hope this project proceeds past this point . . .
Even if the movie ends up not being the greatest, at least we will finally get some new MMM toys out of it. So I'm totally good with it. I just wonder if they will make the new figures bendys like the classic ones?

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
I have a MMM Big Little Book called "Moon Mission". That's all I have of MMM, but I've always liked the commercials. Some new toys would be nice, as long as McFarland doesn't do them. That line produces some scary toys.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

I think there is pretty much zero chance Mattel would let that happen.

As a kid, I wanted Battle Beyond the Stars Action Figures. As an adult, I still want a Sybil Danning Action Figure.
Between the Movie Maniacs and Neca Reels Toys, you'd think someone would have gotten around to the Top Poppin' Queen Werewolf from Howling 2.
I have old issues of Preview that always had upcoming Sybil Danning projects that never materialized. Black Diamond was a comic book starring her that was always supposed to make the transition. She also claimed to have the title role in Octopussy at one point. I think there was also an Attack of the 50 Foot woman remake that never got further than the cover of Femme Fatales.
