    I watched...The Watchmen

I had never read the source material, so I went in with no expectations.

Before going in, I read a review saying it was "too long, boring, hard to understand,...."

    But hey, I liked it!
I had no trouble following the story. True, it is Tarantino-esque, going back and forth between past and present, but we're all smart enough to use our brain from time to time, right?

Personally, I like social comment in a movie, and it has plenty of that.
Nite Owl: "What happened to the American Dream?"
Comedian: "This IS the American Dream!"

Granted, the movie take's its time. The action is situated mostly at the end (where it belongs!).
It's tough, not pulling any punches. There were parents with really young kids in the theatre, and I thought to myself "are you insane?"
The movie has graphic violence galore, rape, plenty of blood.

The humour is dark but sweet.
Rorschach (jailed with dozens of convicts he put there): "You think I am locked up here with you? No, YOU are locked up here with ME!"

I won't spoil the rest for you. Go and see it, and take your time....

Wow, no UK cinema would have allowed kids into this film, they would have been turned away at the door along with the people who came with them.

I think i may go to watch this film one of the evenings.

I saw it last night and I can't really find much fault with the adaptation, what they took out or changed, seemed to make the movie flow better and wow, what they left in.

Some of the gore was jarring, but it was in the book, it's just easier to look at in that medium.

I haven't quite digested it but my biggest qualm with the movie is the Nixon makeup, he looked like the "Duke of Doubt" from the old Burger King commercials.

There was no big "get chills" moment in this movie but then again, that's the point isn't it?

I enjoyed it and think it was done as well as it could be. No film could ever capture all the layers at work in the source material, but this is about as good as it can get.

I think to make up for it they played with some subtleties in the soundtrack and visuals that made it really fun. Maybe that was the prize for those who have read Watchmen because I felt like I was in on an inside joke. Knowing where the story was going allowed me to catch a few Easter Eggs and that made it fun.

I caught a few conversations on the way out of the theater and they seemed to indicate something I thought would happen with all of this. It seemed that people liked it, but based on the conversations I overheard, if you haven't read Watchmen you won't understand the depth of what you are seeing.

Rorschach was seemingly a hit with the crowd. Go Jackie Earle Haley!!!!

            Malin Akerman (Laurie) is hawwttt!

Judging at how many people walked out before the true ending (people were out the door with the Laurie/Dan Scene) makes me think a lot of people hadn't picked up the comic.

These days, people walk out whenever they feel "the action's over", "the Bad Guy is dead",....
You're still watching the movie, and half a dozen guys switch on their cell phones and start talking.
I'm beginning to loathe movie audiences....

During Watchmen, the guy in front of me walked away from his seat five or six times to answer his phone. Jeez, stay at home, guys....

You know, a couple in the same row with me got up and walked out with that and I guess it didn't occur to me until now that they might have left because it offended their sensibilities. I didn't think much about it at the time, but I guess it was pretty hot and heavy. I rather enjoyed the scene.

Belgian theatres have no check-point at the theatre door anymore. You buy your tickets at the cineplex counter, then pick up your friends/family/kids/grandma, and walk in.
I mean, these parents had four kids, the youngest being about 7-8. They walked in just as a guy had his face smashed into a counter top.

And then they are surprised when their kids grow up "wrong"....

Saw it last night - my 13 year old begged me to take him - and I am so VERY glad I didn't. It is a "hard" R and not for anyone under 17 in my opinion.

I did like the over all feel of the movie - thought it was faithful to the book. I thought they did a great job casting it - especially Jackie Earl Haley. Rorschach stole the movie.

I agree with Brian - I got to where I couldn't stand looking at Nixon, especially the close up shots.

If you like the comic, you'll like the movie. But be prepared for some extremely graphic violence and sexual content.

Did anyone notice the Muzak playing in the lobby when Veidt was lecturing Iacocca? Or how about the ironic/appropriate choice of song when the Comedian was killed?

No i meant the second to last scene in the movie. The audience was giggling during the sex scene.
