    DW Attack of the Cyberman

I've never seen this episode before, so I decided to give it a look. Colin Baker's era turned me off so badly in my teens that I stopped watching DW altogether but it's fun to review these shows now. Here are some observations:

The Cyber Continuity is a convoluted mess, no wonder the new series chose to avoid it. This story is hindered by trying to adhere to that continuity, it's a jangled mess of ideas.

Earthshock brought the Cyberman back as a real menace, here a passing breeze seems to kill them. They just stand there waiting to be decapitated and hey, it's really easy to do that!

Colin Baker's Doctor isn't as bad as I remember, he's overacting a bit but he's going for something. He adds more touchs of humour than I remember and I give credit to that.

Peri went to the Denise Richards school of acting. When I look at her though, I'm confused as to why my 16 year old self stopped watching, I must have really hated Colin Baker...

The Cryons are an interesting idea but they look like Lost in Space left overs.

Kudos on showing Cyber Conversion finally and making it creepy.

Why is the Cyber Leader overweight?

This is the second Colin Baker show I've seen recently where he just up and kills his enemy, this time with a gun. That's too much of a 180 for me.

Initially, I liked the downer ending but then I rewatched Warriors of the Deep and realized that JNT pulled this card an awful lot during his tenure.

did you mean the Cyber controller? The controller is actually the same actor who played the controller in Tomb of the cybermen (Michael Kilgariff but I probably spelled it wrong) Which was a cool thing for JNT to do in casting (however thery should have splurged to have him voice over while a more svelt actor played the role on set (the same way traditioanlly the dalek and Cyber voices were done).

I kind of figured as much, you're right, there is zero recognition factor with having the same actor so a voice over would have been far better.

it would be different for a character whose face is scene but all you see is the cyber head not the actor so it was just JNT beinig cheap. It is actually my favorite story in the Colin years.

I haven't seen many of the Colin Baker era but so far it's number one with a bullet for me as well.

I was lucky enough to see Attack of the Cybermen's premier on the big screen .. or at least A big screen

It was shown back in the 80's at a Doctor Who convention I attended.

I think I enjoyed it more then I should have because of the thrill of the event itself.

I did watch it again again about 5 months ago (thanks to a good buddy here) ...

It still seemed to hold up pretty well.

The Colin Baker years were weird in themselves, so when you watch a Baker story you have to go in not expecting much ......
If you do that, you usually come out pleasently surprised (at least a little)
