I still have a soft spot for this show. If only Gil Gerard had listened to the writers. Early first season episodes portray a man of great loss but adapting to his new surroundings. Later episodes and then the terrible second season he just goes thru the motions & Erin Grays role was reduced.Comment

Love the show still to this day.“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

Hmmmm....
I hated this show when I was a kid, but having seen it a year or two back I can understand why folks enjoyed it so much. I still don't like it, but I can see why other do. It's solidly constructed and paced; the characters are all pretty likable. (Even the bad guys.) The ships are neat. The second season isn't as good; but I think that's 'cos they worked so hard to make it more typical. "Star Trek is popular. Let's do that! But add C3P-0."

For me, one of the big pluses of Buck Rogers was me hating Battlestar so much.
I never got into the deep Battlestar mythos and thought the show was quite juvenile (even at the time)
Buck never rubbed me the wrong way like that ... Buck was basically **** in space with a comedy undertone.
Being around 15-ish when Buck came out, I think that's why Buck appealed to me much more then Battlestar.
I still remember when I was in highschool (at the time) ....... It was actually cool to like Buck Rogers, but only nerds and geeks liked Battlestar.
Weird, but true.Last edited by Mikey; Mar 2, '09, 8:11 AM.Comment

Actually, 'guess I'm a nerd and geek, but while I liked Buck's 1st year, it was a bit sad that it came on the heels of Galactica's demise. I grew to like the more character-driven, family feel that Galactica became near the end of it's run, finding it's legs and starting to capitalize on it's own strengths and rhythm, than being just a SW ripoff..
Reading Starlog at the time, Buck signified the attention away from BG and towards a new project (same sfx team..), so while I liked Buck's first year for all the reasons everyone's mentioned, I still wished for a 2nd year of Galactica.
I do agree that Buck had a lot more lattitude to do what it wanted, creatively. Loved the David Groh/Roddy McDowell 2-part episode. The 2nd year just stank, even for a teen like me. Yes, Gerard should have listened to the writers, instead of trying to make Star Trek, which in interviews at the time he mentioned it was his big motivation..
Losing Dr. Huer was a BIG mistake going into the 2nd year.Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I liked Buck better than BSG as well, oddly I had the BSG figures and nothing from Buck.
The first season has a sort of "Man from U.N.C.L.E in Space" sort of thing going on, the villains for the most part, are colourful and somewhat campy.
It's a decent light hearted adventure series that I still really enjoy to this day. It's not terribly cerebral but it doesn't really have to be.
The Second Season was too big a reach for the show IMO, the execution is far too juvenile to be Star Trek and some episodes I find hard to watch.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

i loved the show as a kid, both seasons. I even liked the Hawk character back then. Loved the spirit of adventure but in retrospect they were trying way to hard to mimic the popular scifi of the day....anyone remember the season 2 episode with the invisible guy weilding a lightsaber?
I have tried getting my son to watch it but it is too tame for todays kidsComment
