What the heck is starbuck??

I am really enjoying Battlestar Galactica but the one big thing I don't get, what the heck is Starbuck? Is she a ghost? A Cylon that no one knew about? What?

You think that she herself would freak out a bit more about finding herself in a crashed viper. She just calmly does the Luke Skywalker thing and light a pyre and stays quiet about it? My thought was that she was going to be a new take on the "ship of light" people from the old series, but with a few shows left, I'm not sure that will be the case.

She's the last mystery of the show. I think tonight's episode involves her.

It sucks, really. With the series ending in 4 episodes they are running out of time and are just cramming all the unanswered stuff into a small space. The "exposition dump" about the origin of the Final 5 should have taken at least half a season instead of 5 minutes.
