I enjoy it, melding the stories together doesn't totally work and some of the effects are wonky but it's still kind of a cool piece. I think a lot of that has to do with it's late 70s vibe and stars.

It actually got me into the book.

The movie was ok, but I think I would have liked it more if it wasn't so long.

For me, it kind of dragged .. and that hurt it.

      I also didn't really get the ending - so I thought/think I missed something.

Yeah McGavin, Roddy McDowell, Barry Morse and Spider-Man Nicholas Hammond.

That ending is similiar to the book but the movie kind of fumbles it, mostly because they connected stories that weren't neccesarily connected to beigin with. In the original story, there has been a holocaust on Earth and a man takes his family on a fishing trip to see Martians. When they arrive at the river, they see their reflections and he says "There are the Martians".

Just as he says this, many more ships arrive and it's clear that Earth's survivors will now make a home on Mars.

The movie makes out like Hudson and his kids are the last people alive on the planet, which means I guess, his kids have to date each other....

I remember watching it but recall none of it. Wasn't Wojo from Barney Miller in it?
Seem to have a feeling it wasn't that great.
