A crappy figure for a crappy movie -- Star Trek

This was posted in the toy forum, but I thought i'd post it here to incase anyone misses it there ....

Presenting the new Star Trek (based on upcoming movie) Captain Kirk action figure made by Playmates ...

I love it because it perfectly represents the new movie ... Crappy

Definitely not Playmates best work by any stretch. I collected their classic Trek figures and none of the sculpts were that bad.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I love the crocheted look of his shirt.

Did grandma Kirk knit that with her own 2 hands ?

I'm actually kinda surprised how bad a job Playmates did on what has to be (love or hate the new movie) considered a fairly top level license.

The head is too small and looks nothing like the actor. You know, I realise the new shirts have a faint texture to them but that just looks like bright yellow chainmail. Plus it makes him look kinda fat.

                          It's just shockingly bad.

Yeah the figure sucks, I'll reserve judgement on the movie till I've actually seen it. Unlike some who just universally despise it already.

                              Two thoughts:

                              1) This and Playmates Terminator line suggest that they p'd all their money on the license itself and the upper management decided "We'll just sculpt em ourselves!"

                              2) Jeez Mike, lighten up on the movie already.
