What did you think of DW's KEY TO TIME season ?

I just finished watching the Key To Time season and thought it would make a good topic.
We discussed KTT once before on the old board but I thought the talk was worth revisiting.

I like the Key To Time, but I don't love it.

I guess i'll start by naming my fav stories in order (1=best etc)

    1. The Stones Of Blood
    2. The Power of Kroll
    3. The Pirate Planet
    4. The Androids of Tara
    5. The Armageddon Factor
    6. The Ribos Operation

    I'll elaborate backwards ....

    6. The Ribos Operation
For a first story of an arc season, this story was horribly boring and didn't give me any hope that I would enjoy anymore stories this year.
It crawled slower then a snail.

    5. The Armageddon Factor
About the worst season finale ever ... and that's including the new series.
It was totally uneventful and made me feel I wasted my time this whole season.

    4. The Androids of Tara
Not bad, but nowhere near good ... The whole story could have been condensed into a half hour.

    3. The Pirate Planet
Not bad, as a matter of fact I kind of liked it ... It was different if anything.
The humour didn't help it though ...

    2. The Power of Kroll
I liked it ... Not a lot, but it did stand out in this pretty lousy season.

    1. The Stones of Blood
Now we're talking ... This story brought me back to the old "Gothic" Tom Baker days ... All we were missing was Sarah Jane Smith.... Good show.

I am going to miss Romana-1
I started to like her -- dare I say, even more then Romana-2

Actually, buying the individual eps are EXTREMELY CHEAP on Amazon.. I bought Ribos and Pirate eps each for less than $5.00 (under $10 with shipping..).

That year was the epitome of the 'Tom Baker Show', rather than being actual 'Doctor Who'.

Yes, I'll have to pick up 'Stones of Blood'.. It is considered the best of the story arc..

And yes, Mary Tamm WAS the best Romana.
      Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I've been rewatching them lately and I have to say, my memory cheats a bit. While the episodes that I don't like are still pretty stinky, there are some really stand out, competant stories in here.

I'd forgotten how solid "Stones of Blood" and "Ribos Operation" were.

Also Mary Tamm was really good as Romana, I'd forgotten how attractive she was.

Romana in her Armageddon Factor outfit was gorgeous.

I've only seen The Stones of Blood. Does anyone know why the pieces were kept in a refrigerator?

The way the Doctor explained it (partly) in the Armadgeddon Factor, it wasn't really a fridge.
It was some kind of holding chamber thingie --
But i'm assuming he disguised it as a fridge.

It was a strange situation how they were released on DVD.

The Key To Time was released in America a good 3 years before it was released in the UK.

                  Weird

Funny, everywhere I have checked it had been cheaper to buy the boxed set then buy them separately. I will have to look again.

I've actually never had a problem buying them Used or 'Like New', as they say, for years now.. I'll most likely watch them a dozen times or so, then sell them on eBay and make money anyways.

Example..: I bought the 'Seeds of Doom' VHS boxset on eBay for under $10 used.. Watched it a few times, then sold it on Amazon for $35. Obviously that's because that episode's not on DVD yet, but you'd be surprised with how much they can sell for on the right site.

                        Ah, the Internet.

Digging this back up because I finally got to see The Pirate Planet and The Armageddon Factor.Didn't mind the humor in The Pirate Planet when you take into account who wrote it. Agreed The Armageddon Factor seemed flat. They had this huge build up and it's over just like that. By the way is Pete Sigma suppose to be another alias like John Smith for The Doctor?

Theta Sigma was the Doctor's "nickname" at the Time Lord academy.

With a nickname like that, i'm assuming the Doctor hung out with the NERDS !!!
