    Star Wars On Stage

    Good Grief!

Los Angeles (E! Online) – A long time from now, in a galaxy far, far away...the Star Wars money machine will still be cranking.

Not content with seven feature films or myriad TV spinoffs ranging from the current Clone Wars cartoon series to the dreaded Star Wars Holiday Special, the Jedi masterminds are readying a stage show.

George Lucas has signed off on Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a two-hour live musical event featuring a Stormtrooper kick line and singing Wookiees John Williams' Oscar-winning score.

Premiering next year in London's O2 arena, the production will be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in synch with movie clips from the six live-action films. The show will play in chronological order, from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi.

The production will blast off April 10 in the U.K. and then embark on a European tour, complete with an exhibition of rare Star Wars collectibles, including never-before-seen models, props, costumes and production artwork. No word when it will visit America.

Now if we could only get a musical version of the Star Wars Holiday Special...

Please say this isn't real. Please oh please. I can see making all the money you can off the property. I can see doing cartoons and animated specials to cash in. I can see re-releasing new DVD versions over and over. All this irritates me some, but I can understand it. But THIS! This I can't forgive. There has to be a point where you (the creator of a property) take a little pride and says "not with my creation!"

Seven feature films? Guess they are counting that Clone Wars sort of release?

Now I'm scared. This will cheapen the franchise even more. A sad time for movies I genuinely love.

I truly count you guys as my "respected contemporaries" in geek-ville

So take this with a grain of whatever...

But I seriously think you guys take this stuff WAY too seriously.

            The stageplay thing?
Sounds like a good time----or not----
but either way---if it sounds icky to you----why even care????

You still have your "Han shot first" Betamax tapes
(Wait, I take that back---didn't Lucas finally release the old editions on DVD?)

              Knowing Lucas,
He'll say THIS is the true verson of Star Wars and totally dismiss the movies --- to the point of taking them off the market ......
Then bringing them back with CGI included footage of Vader and Ben on ice singing

              Sad thing is,
              With Lucas, it could happen.

He's the only person who can create such goodness, then happily take a dump on it.

                Really?

If Roddenberry had better health...tons of hardcore Trek fans
would be saying the same thing about HIM in 2009....because
the Trek franchise would be going through the same growing pains
STAR WARS is....all SIMPLY because of supply, demand and the passage of time.

I'll tell ya, I'll never understand the hardcore fanboys that are fickle enough
to re-evaluate and devalue a whole franchise after they've raved so happily
                about it.

It's some sort of "nerd integrity" that I don't understand.

You can't compare Lucas to Roddenberry.

                  Lucas controls everything Star Wars.
He's literally the Star Wars Emperor.

Roddenberry didn't have that kind of control over Star Trek.

                    I did consider that.

A singing/dancing stage version of Star Wars is entertainment? Huh, that thought had not occured to me in the least.

It would be really cool if they took existing songs from Broadway shows and just added new lyrics like Mad Magazine did with both their Star Wars and Star Trek "musicals."
                          It's all good!
