it overreached a little trying to tie everything together but honestly I found mostly satisfactory, sure there was some more deus ex machina with "doctor Donna" but it didn't offend my intelligence as much as season 3's ending.
Plus for once, I really liked Davros.

One thing I thought was pretty slick was how they effectively ended pretty much everything; BUT in such a way that they could draw from things for later episodes. Stuff like:
-Doctor/Donna: she still has the Doctor's knowledge, but can't access it. Unless something else intervenes.
-The human Doctor, who's in the other dimension safely away from the continuity; unless they want to bring him back.
-Daleks. So now we know there are a lot of different factions out there and it's possible for them to key up, or rebuild.
I like Daleks.
One thing I noticed with this and a few other episodes; a lot of the deus-ex-machina CAN be explained within the series, but isn't often presented as such. So.... what was the deal with Doctor/Donna? Remember she was being cultivated as a sort of battery by that spider thing when we first saw her. So her channelling energy is plausible given the circumstances. (although we're not quite privy to wether or not this was intentional or happy coincidence for the writer.) Even the way they whacked the Daleks. Dalekanium is a super-dense material that's used for Dalek armour AND if charged properly a powerful explosive. They mentioned that way back in the original. (Although I think it was to explain why Dalekanium was an explosive in one episdoe and a construction material in a much later one. At any rate it's nice to see that sort of oops actually used instead of ignored.)
....and I thought towing the Earth back was pretty funny. Haven't seen that sort of thing since silver age DC comics....
There were a few things I thought were interesting to dwell on:
-there are now FOUR Doctors running around. I wonder what they're gonna do with them.
-when he explained why he left the human Doctor with Rose I thought that'd be a sneaky way of explaining the Doctor's evil regeneration from "Trial of a Time Lord."
-I actually felt BAD for Davros. How the mighty have fallen.

Much like the Doctor is half-human reference in the tv movie I think most people treat the valeyard as an alternalte timeline paradox (or outright error to be ignored) and don't talk of it (especially in the current timeline there is no Galifreyan societly left)

I think you're right about the error part. The half human Doctor was only mentioned in the Fox movie, which most people don't consider cannon. And the evil Doctor was only ever mentioned once, and I think a lot of people probably MISSED it 'cos "Trial of a Time Lord" was so all over the place. A lot of it looked ad-hoc.
Hated the contrived way Donna was treated, "erasing" her entire run with the Doctor.
Poor story telling.
And getting Rose "back" into it, didn't really work, either, given her a duplicate Doctor.

I loved it ! yes it had flaws. i don't like wasting a regeneration into a Human/Doctor to give to Rose. Poor Mickey, a loving faithful boyfriend who is always there for her and he gets bumped again. leaving Donna without the memories was mean but interesting. bringing back everyone was just RTD having a Fanboy moment and i'll forgive him that, because as a fanboy myself it was amazing! They have to stop wiping out the daleks as they need to come back from time to time without having to be so grand a tale. But i loved 6 people working a 6 sided Tardis control.. because that's how it supposed to be!

HAW! I'm glad someone else feels that way. No Mickey, you ARE the tin dog....
>But i loved 6 people working a 6 sided Tardis control
It was almost seven. "No... you just stand here...."
>I think the duplicate Doctor for Rose was to appease the young fans that don't know what it's like not to have closure.
It could be. It could also be the producers not wanting to do away with potential spinoffs. A lot of the last episode seemed like them wanting to wrap up old threads without writing them off completely.
I'm kinda hoping they use this end to go a whole new route with the show.
I don't think this was a wasted regeneration ...
I'm not sure what to call it, but i'll bet when the next Doctor takes over he'll be officially called the eleventh Doctor.
I thought he said that it wasn't a regeneration; he used only as much energy as was needed to heal and redirected the extra. That's why he didn't change.
I have a feeling this also could explain Romana's "regeneration"
She really didn't regenerate from Mary to Lalla ...
She basically tapped a little energy from somewhere and changed her "appearence".
Sounds as good as any other explaination I heard
and for the people who say --- Mary and Lalla both acted differently...
That's true, but most people do after they have a face-lift, lose weight or undergo any changes to their body.

while I prefer to ignore both the fact that BBC does count the movie is it's episode giude for the classic series makes the move cannon.
as is so often the case w doctor who (and star trek too) the shear # of cooks in the kitchen in the scripts lead to plot points that are contradictory to earlier work such as - dalek and cybermen's muddled history, the Doctors age (trougthon says his age is younger after his regeneration to be about 450, while pertwee in sea devils or Mutants talks of his 1000's of years, and it's been about 800-950 since Tom Baker), even his double heart is never mentioned till Pertwee's 1st story
>shear # of cooks in the kitchen in the scripts lead to plot points that are contradictory to earlier work
Oh, defintiely. ANY series that runs for 30+ years is gonna have that happen. I usually go off the old FASA RPG for my explanations of the wacky stuff. They did a good job explaining everything, and I know when the game came out they were on fairly tight reigns with what they could and couldn't do.
>the fact that BBC does count the movie is it's episode giude for the classic series makes the move cannon
As if on cue; yeah, maybe. They've already contradicted that with the Doctor/Donna bit. Where you couldn't have that weird energy displacement happen with a Time Lord and a human. If so, how could the Doctor be half human? (Which I recall is something mentioned in the Fox movie.) Unless they say that's exaclty WHY it could happen this time.
I think it's entertaining to discuss this sort of thing, but I don't get too hung up on it. Kinda like when I was a kid.
>I have a feeling this also could explain Romana's "regeneration"
That's pretty close to the explanation I'd heard. Some TIme Lords are better at it than others, and she could do mini-regenerations to change her appearance.
