GREAT film...one of the all-time BEST.

Although many things in the film are a tad outdated...like when a radio message says that they are only two other likely planets besides Earth that could hold life...Mars and Venus. Ok, I guess Mars could be possible to settle as a scientific research facility with artificial oxygen and such...and there's always the possibility of frozen water on the poles...

But Venus?????????????????????

Venus has an atmosphere....its poisonous (to us anyways) but its there.
Lets not forget Carson Napier...he found a whole world of life on Venus (and one town of death)!

No space probes are possible there (we sent one into Venus' atmosphere, and it was melted within minutes)...let alone organic lifeforms.

I have the 2002 DVD release but I haven't watched it yet. I try to get my kids to watch these old movies with me but they go, "EEEWW It's black & white. It's boring."
I made them watch Mighty Joe Young last week. They grumbled so i said, "Just watch 5 minutes of it and if you don't like it we'll put SpongeBob or something else on"
When the end of the movie came, my one daughter said. "Has it been 5 minutes yet?"
They watched the whole thing!

Yeah but remember how many movies back then thought Venus was swarming with nothing but beautiful women. If they only knew then what we know now.
