    Funny POTA story

So, my son has been really digging the apes cartoon for a bunch of years now and recently asked if he could watch the live action tv series. I remembered I had the old british annual and told him I'd read him the stories before bed.

So last night I read him a story and he went through the pages noticing an image of the statue of liberty he asked "Why is the Statue of Liberty all wrecked?"

I said "Because it was destroyed"

His eyes went as wide as saucers and he asked me "Daddy, is this really our future?" I then had to spend a good twenty minutes explaining that it was make believe and quite silly.

I laughed but then I remembered cowering under my own covers when I heard on the radio that President Carter was sending troops to deal with "Gorilla fighters".

That's funny. My eldest asked the same thing last year, when he saw the Statue of Liberty scene. He wanted to know if that's our future. Once in awhile he still asks, are you sure that's not our future?

He also wanted to know if the ape that got malaria on the TV series really got malaria. I had to explain to him that it was an actor and it was not real.

When I was young, I also remember asking my mom why we were fighting gorillas.
