top 25 sci-fi movies of all time

I love "12 Monkeys". Not too many people cared for it. It belongs on this list (not top 10).

I wonder why "Dune" wasn't mentioned. That was another great movie that did bad at the box office.

"Close Encounters" should be alot higher than it is on that list.

"Terminator 2" is way too high on the list. The first is 1000x better.

Another movie not mentioned is "Time Bandits". I think it is the same people who did "Brazil".

I agree with everything you said except the part about Dune...it's a crappy movie...and this is coming from one of Frank Herbert's biggest fans...Dune also happens to be my all-time favorite book...what a dissapointment when I first saw the movie. The Sci-Fi Channel's Dune mini-series is a hundred times better.

I almost listed The Thing at number five over Planet of the Apes...but I don't wanna pizz off Jessica.

The Thing is a GREAT movie, certainly better than the original, Thing From Another World.

Popularizing "bullet time" is the #1 reason I WOULDN'T put it at #1!

Is there no love for John Carpenter's The Thing out there? IMO, it is the greatest science fiction movie ever made. However, I can see the arguement that it is much more a horror film than sci-fi.

Yes, when you think of the Matrix -- just think of the First movie -- the other 2 suck! But the Original Matrix is really good. And it popularized the whole bullet time thing.

I think the list is pretty good, the order is not, and there are a few that could be removed and others added. But overall it is a good representation.

I dunno if it does any more. It's tough to tell how popular something is any more. Every movie is the number one film, and a true milestone in fimmaking, and the gratest thing ever, and resonantes on a primordial level with the audience.... while it's playing. Then they sort of go away. Until the special edition disks come out.

Hype can be tough to sift through.

STAR WARS, while a good film, isn't science-fiction... It's a space fantasy, so it shouldn't be on the list...

Sure it is...anytime you have technology...no matter how fantastical the setting is...it's still considered science fiction.

No, not really............well, maybe just a little bit! But honestly, I think it's one of the GREATEST Si-Fi Movies EVER made!! I agree it was all down Hill from there(liked reloaded, it set up the series for a great finish...but they BLEW IT!). But the first Matrix didn't need a sequel...it stands alone just fine!

I agree that the matrix isn't for me but it wasn't bad and a TON of people LOVE this film

It unfortunately is marred by 2 of the worst sequels ever. -the kind that aren't satisfied with being bad iin their own right - they poop on the original.

Some say Crocodile Dundee was one of the better Tarzan films ever made....well Galaxy Quest may be one of the better Trek films made!

I would *so* trade "Generations" for a "Star Trek VII" based on "Galaxy Quest" where the actors get to play the funhouse mirror versions of themselves while taking potshots and simultaneously celebrating the whole Trek culture . . . I've always been able to see Nimoy doing the Alexander Dane slow burn for the whole movie, and Doohan would've been a stitch in the low-key/slightly drunk Fred Kwan bits . . .

(and on "Dundee", I said the same thing about it as a Tarzan movie walking out of the theatre the first time I saw it!)
