I like Simm, especially on Life On Mars ... But I hope he isn't the Master again -- short of perhaps a cameo in a regenation story.

If they do bring back the Master, i'd like someone a little more serious ...
A combo of Eric Roberts mixed with Delgado would suit me.

You see, I loved him as the Master. Sure he was kind of hyperactive but he had finally beaten the Doctor, he should have been nuts like that.

Eric Roberts didn't do it for me at all.

I don't mind the nutty part of him .. I just don't like the funny ha-ha every second moment part.
Example: when he said to the Doctor "are you asking me out on a date ?" .. I cringed.

Would be weird if he was the Doctor anyways. You last see the guy as the Master then he shows up as the Doctor?

I would not prefer it - i wasn't that please with is master anyway. That being said classic Who has set a precedent for non forced regeneration yields the ability to choose your face (destiny of the daleks - Romana 1 to -2 & War Games - Doctor 2 to -3)

I liked Simm as the Master but I wish they had kept Jacobi on in the role, he had a great sinister streak that really suited the role.

I think jacobi's age made it impractical like tennet they want a more vibrant "hip" actor not an older distinguished one. and have they ever explained how the master has regenerations again and I missed it? in the classic and the movie both it stresses he is out of regenerations so he is stealing bodies

Yeah Eric roberts as the master was an ODD choice. he's a creep but seems better cast as a woman beater (see star 80) than a mastermind

It was discussed that the Time Lords brought him back to fight in the time war, so I'm assuming that meant "back to life". They thought him a good soldier because he was such a bad guy in real life. He was a coward and fled as far as he could in time and removed his Time Lord essence so they couldn't find him.

Speaking of the Master's regenerations --- I dunno if anyone ever mentioned this before, but didn't the Time Lords owe him a full set of new regenations at the conclusion of the Five Doctors ?
