Are the POTA's TV movies dead ?

Even though I was plenty old enough that I should remember Planet of the Apes the TV series -- I don't.
I remember it as re-edited TV movies shown years later.
For a long time, I thought the TV movies were real made for TV movies.

    Anyway,
    Just wondering ...
In this day and age when anyone can go out and buy the series for 30 bucks and everyone wants everything original -do you think the TV movies will ever be shown again ?
Will they be lost forever and forgotten about ?

Last I heard of them they showed up on Fox movie channel a few years ago. With thier upcoming "Channel Of The Apes" (promotion for the blu-ray set) weekend for around Thanksgiving on FMC they might be shown again.

I use to catch it on Sci-Fi late at night/early in the morning back when they would rotate this with Buck Rogers.

I'm sure they will always be available in trading circles, or through greymarket sellers. I haven't seen them in years myself.

I taped it once for a kid during the 30th anniversary thing. But I think the last time I saw this was on one of the Encore channels on a weekend.

Have them on DVD, watch them the other day. Fun to watch for the Dialoge change, that they have for the original episodes. I keep mine with my Battlestar Galatica TV Movies DVDs.

How much is there in the way of differences between the episodes proper and the TV movie compilations?

                  Guess what?

They will all be shown on November 27 on FMC

Fox Movie Channel CHANNEL OF THE APES

It also appears that they will show the extended cut of Conquest for those that don't have Blu-Ray capability yet.

Mainly, they can rearrange scene and dub in new dialogue. This is really bad in the Battlestar Galactica TV Movies. I am missing a few, mostly the 2-parter episodes, which are cut to together easily. I am missing one of the BG TV movies were they cut to single episodes together.

                      New Apes?

Heck i'm still hoping and praying for a new Apes movie someday. Or a POTA series.

Yea, hard to believe the 70's TV series only lasted for 14 of the planned 24 episodes. The Cartoon series only lasted for 13 episode and those were originally aired mainly out of order. Fortunately, The 2 DVD set put them in the correct order and gave the original air dates on the back cover, to show how missed up the NBC airing was.

I only ever saw the original 1hr ones back in 1974. You can actually go to the POTA website and download the Quicktime file consisting of all the footage of Roddy McDowall doing his opening/closing bits he filmed especially for the re-edited movies. It's pretty cool.

Love the series, more so that the later movies.

When I typed in Planet Of the apes, I got the 20th Century Fox website, and that had a cool link about the boxed set in the ape head. What site are you talking about?

There's a shiny quarter in it for the fine person who tapes that for me.

I still have super muddy VHS tapes of the TV movies from the mid eighties, the commercials interest me more than the shows now.
