Something as popular as Trek...economically, that just ain't gonna happen.

Anyway, you'll get your wish of (at least "classic") Trek being put to rest if
this fails as you predict it will.

I still remember back in like '90-ish AFTER The Final Frontier, when the idea of a backstory of Kirk first meeting Spock (with all new young actors) was pitched to Gene.
This was going to be Star Trek 6.

Gene shot it down in 2 seconds.
He said we're not going to have any of that.

I think it's quite appropriate it's finally being done, now that Gene is dead and can't veto it.
Appropriate because after Gene died, everything Trek failed.

There's nothing new here.

Shat and Nimoy weren't airbrushed/photoshopped to death to smooth out their skin and cover their pores, moles, acne scars, etc. So the look a lot more rugged and believable as experienced explorers. The still photos from this movie so far are horrible looking. The PR people are not helping sell this film to anyone.

I don't think that the 60s Trek promo guys were looking to render
"believable experienced explorers"----they were just working within
what was common practice at the time.

Hey now....what you said MAY be true but the point I was actually
trying to make was far more simple.

Nimoy and Shat look older----of COURSE they are going to look different.

That adds a lot to any disparity in the simillarity of the two pics

I dunno why most of you guys think that fake Spock guy looks so great.

To me, he doesn't look anything like Spock

He looks like a generic vulcan you'd see in the background of any given Trek series.

Actually, he looks more like Robin Curtis then Nimoy

If they were going to mimic that famous shot, they should have mimicked the lighting and the actual angle from the original, which is timelessly cool. As it stands, no matter how good or bad this movie is, looks like the new Kirk and Spock stopped by the Wal-Mart photo studio and had their portraits made for Christmas cards.

And Pine in all black is totally making him look even more non-Kirk than he does.

When I look at this photo, it reminds me of me and my old school buds.
Back in the 70's we had a movie camera and used to make and film our own Star Trek adventures.
We also used to do "promo pics" like the one above -- for fun.

BTW, I was Captain Kirk ---
Why you ask ?
Because I owned the movie camera

Like I said, the pic makes me think cheapo amateurs.
