Question about the Wrath of Khan SE DVD ?

I have the original DVD release of WOK.
I know there was a rerelease of WOK a few years ago on perhaps a Special Edition DVD.
Actually, I think all the movies we rereleased with a Special Edition title.

If you have these second editions....
A few questions about WOK ....

Is all the Scott nephew stuff restored in this release ?
What else differs between this release and mine ?

    Is it worth buying ?

    Lastly,
are ANY of these Special Editions worth buying ? .. and why ? ... or why not ?

    I have them all you raise a couple of interesting questions that I would have to re-watch to know one hundred percent before I said anything but some things I know for sure;
Scott's nephew is in it(line up inspection scene and death scene with Scott and kirk in sick bay),WOK special Edition is awesome.
They are all basically the same the only one with the major difference would be special edition directors cut of the motion picture. That is by far the best it has something like an extra 15-20 minutes and is almost a different movie worth watching and owning for sure.
Like I said the others do have little bits of goodness here and there but motion picture is the biggest change.
I bought all mine at walmart for 7.99-9.99...Can't go wrong there.

Yes, the special edition has the same scene additions that were in the ABC showings. I tend to think the SE's were worth it but I like bonus material. Also I think they were worth it because they did 16:9 transfers for the movies that were only released in 4:3 widescreen (Undiscovered Country, Generations) and where the original releases of WOK, TSFS and TVH were on single layer discs, these special editions put them on dual layer discs which means less compression.

So, to me, they were worth it.

TSFS and TVH are the original theatrical versions with no additional scenes. Undiscovered Country is the same expanded video version with a couple additional (and unneeded) flourishes. It seems that the original theatrical version of Undiscovered Country will never see the video light of day (for those that don't know, the Operation Retrieve subplot, scene with Scotty talking about that Klingon b***h and the exposure of the fake klingon assassin was never in the theatrical version of the movie)

        Thanks for the info, Mike

        BTW,
I always wince when I hear Scotty say Klingon b***h.
        It's just so unlike him.

        There's a few scenes in UC I don't like .....

        1. Scotty saying Klingon b***h

        2. McCoy saying "this is fun" during the ending battle

        3. Chekov dropping the boots, what looks like right on that poor aliens feet.

        4. Valris explaining to Chekov about how a phaser works --- reminds me of Spaceballs when Moranis says to the camera "everybody got that ?"

I never liked Scotty saying that either. I also don't like Valaris talking about seeing it "on the news" just as if she just was done watching Peter Jennings. About the versions again, now you know why Rene Auberjoenous (I know I mispelled his name) doesn't get screen credit as Colonel West (who is also the one who dresses up as a Klingon to assasinate the President)

I'll have to check my laserdisc about ST6 to see if those scenes are in it or not

They are in there, they are in all video versions. The theatrical version has never been released.
