Your top fav CLASSIC Sci-Fi films

    Ok,
First, let me define my version of Classic .....
    Pre- 1968 .......
    Reason,
I consider 2001 to be the first modern era sci fi movie ever made.
So we'll use 2001 as the boundry between classic and modern.

Some horror movies can be included IF they contain some elements of Sci Fi.
Example, I would eccept Frankenstein etc.
Same with other genre's that contain at least a fair element of Science Fiction.

My top list of fav's would be .....

    1. Forbidden Planet
    2. Robinson Crusoe On Mars
    3. This Island Earth
    4. Earth vs. The Flying Saucers
    5. Conquest Of Space
    6. Angry Red Planet
    7. Mysterious Island
    8. The Amazing Colossal Man
    9. Dr Cyclops
    10. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

I would have to say Quatermass and the pit (1967)
It was one of the few movies to actually gave me nightmares.

Tarantula, Creature From the Black Lagoon, It Came from Beneath the Sea/Outer Space, The Collosus Of New York, The Monolith Monsters, The Wasp Woman, Earth Vs. The Spider, Them!, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and on the cusp on the late 1960's, Fantastic Voyage.

Well, Planet of the Apes was copyrighted 1967 (as you are well aware when dealing with people selling stuff on ebay, LOL!!!) so do I get that on a technicality?

            BTW....2001... SNOREFEST!!

I have yet been able to stay awake more than 10 minutes after the apes & monolith beginning scenes. (ie: b o r i n g)
Have never seen whole movie so...classic?...up for discussion in my opinion.
Most overrated sci-fi movie? Yes, 2001 wins hands-down.

Well, of course I love Apes, but sometimes I think of that as almost its own genre. And besides, I wanted to list other movies I like too!

A lot of great movies listed already, so I'll just add one of my favorites I didn't see listed yet: "When Worlds Collide".

Except for the beginning part with the apes & the theme music. That part was cool. Movie should've ended there.

2001 is another one of them films that had a HUGE impact on an entire genre of film, but we've all pretty much grown up with the results, so it comes across as dry and typical. It's tough to see how new it was when it came out 'cos everything new about it was appropriated by the films that came AFTER, which we'd been exposed to BEFORE seeing the original. (I suspect younger folk would feel the same about "Bladerunner" these days.)

... but the ape part ROCKS!

                              I like 2001, but I don't love it ......

The premise of the movie was great ...

I just think the movie was executed with a lot to be desired from the viewer.

Example: ... The 20 minute scene of Keir landing on the surface ....
I would have rather that been 4 minutes --- and save the other 15 for something more interesting (maybe a few gap fillers between the dawn of man and 2001) -- perhaps a scene with the monolith being worshipped in ancient Egypt etc.

The extended scenes were fantastic -- especially the space scenes ... But with a story so ambitious as this one was, they should have cut some of those scenes down a bit to make the story a little more coherent for the general viewer.
