Flash Gordon: The Series - Spoilers....sort of.

Watched the debut of this tonight and was hoping for the best. Like the new BSG, I was really lookng forward to it.

I want my hour back. What a snoozefest. Yet another fantasy character they've managed to drain the life from. They excel at it.

Honestly, I wish Hollywood would come up with new stuff instead of poorly redoing classic stuff or adapting stuff to this new CSI/Dawson's Creek crap.

Sci Fi and Fantasy and comics are SUPPOSED to be unrealistic. By trying to make them more "realistic", they've managed to suck the characters and stories dry of anything interesting or fun like they do everything lately. IronMan being an exception.

Since it ended with Flash and Dale arriving on Mongo, I'm giving it one more show but I suspect I'll be turning it off half way through. Ugh.

I was really hoping the new series would be good but I didn't enjoy it either. Oh well maybe in anohter 20 or 30 years they'll do it right.

As corny as it is, at least the 1980 movie was fun and Ming was awesome.

Like I said, I'll give it one more episode.

I remember when this was first shown on Sci-Fi. Within 2 months you could buy the first season on DVD at BestBuy. They really wiped their @ $ $ with this one.

Now if you really want a good Flash Gordon series; check out the Filmation DVD set. It's stays really close to the vision of Alex Raymond.

I just wish I could find the Flash Gordon The Greatest Adventure of All on DVD. This is the 1980 cartoon movie the series was based on. I saw it on late night NBC broadcast back in the day. I know I'm one of the few that has ever seen it, much less one of the few that ever saw the orginal broadcast. It was before VCRs, but I did make an audio recording.

Is this the one with the blonde guy with a full head of hair as Ming the Merciless? WTH???? Hey, why not cast Flash Gordon as a Samoan dwarf with bad teeth and a stutter? Good lord. If you're not going to be true to the source material, call it something else and have done with it. I don't mind remakes and "re-imaginings" but they have to be, you know, good.

I actually prefer the 50's Steve Holland series over this. If you haven't seen it, it's an uber cheap production filmed in post war Germany. The main characters are American but the rest of the cast is trying desparately to cover their heavy accents. Lots of characters saying "Vell Hello Dere Fly-Sh Gor-ton!"

I've already seen the entire show (can't believe they showed that here first) and it's somewhat entertaining... just forget his name is Flash Gordon and you might enjoy it

I saw a few episodes when I was in the States for a while last summer....Decided it was pretty much a crapfest then, so I havent bothered to watch it now thats its on Canadian tv.
Wasnt it cancelled after the first season anyways?....Probably why Space is airing it now...got it cheap.

I'm not a fan of the series and never made it past the pilot (which I hated) .... but I read on the interent 21 epsiodes were filmed, but only 11 made it to US showings on Sci Fi channel.
When the series was cancelled. they immediately booted it off the air on the spot.
They booted it before they even showed the last 10 episodes.
I'm guessing the Canadian showing will play them all -- considering they bought it.
