I would be interested in this, but CANT STAND Keanu Reeves! As with Tom Cruise, anything with him in it remains unwatched by me!

            Maybe I made a mistake.
Keanu Reeves should be in Day.
            But he should play Gort.
I mean, he has the perfect facial expression for it....

            I can see it now:
            Klaatu: "Gort; Klaatu, Barada, Nikto!"
            Gort: "Whoaw, dude! That's radical."
            .
            .
            .

BIG NUMBER ONE Keanu is NO Michael Rennie. Mike gave a very good performance in the role.

Two the way Klaatu shocked the humans with such a non violent complete show of power is what made the movie.

I dont know in what context the trailer comes from but I saw a bunch of independence day type explosions and such.

Even the Abyss's giant Tidal wave would go more with the original 'The day"
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
              Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

Michael Rennie had a maturity and calm about him that made it believable.
I think Reeves has made films he's good in, but not every concept is suitable for every actor.
Would you see Vin Diesel play The Pope?
( I can hear the trailer voice-over: "In a time when all had lost hope, he came and kicked *** for the Lord....")

Same way that Connery is a great actor, but he cannot play bad guys. Neither can Ford.

PS: Schwarzenegger as Mother Theresa. Think about it.

                  >not every concept is suitable for every actor.

A good actor can... you know... ACT. That means each part they play is.... you know.... DIFFERENT. The problem with EVERYBODY you mentioned is that none of 'em are really actors. They may be entertaining, but they're exactly the same in every part they play. That's what they're hired for. That's the problem with Reeves as Klaatu, Reeves has this weird stunned, breathless thing going on that I'D see as awkward for the character. Rennie played Klaatu as a man in control, even when you didn't think he was. Reeves will seem kinda out of it, like he always does. (Every time I see him I STILL see Ted "Theodore" Logan.)

I have to totally agree. I love Connery, but he's always-basically-Connery. He could play a gay paraplegic eskimo, and he'd still do it with a scottish accent and chat up eskimo women.
"Sho, would you like to see my igloo, lassie?"

So we're in agreement? Lets' skip the "Day" remake!

My feelings on the re-make craze is don't mess with the movies that did it right the first time and ease off all the damn CGI.

The Day the Earth Stood Still is brilliant as is. Don't mess with it. Adding Keanu and loads of CGI is NOT an improvement.

I also don't want to see the inevitable Lawrence of Arabia remake starring Marky Mark or Shia Labeouf with a CGI desert and CGI sand storms that look like something out of the recent Mummy movies to make it more edgy.

Nor do I think CGI explosions and or Jack Black will improve Citizen Kane. Again, don't mess with it.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

A comedian did a routine about that concerning "Hunt For Red October."

"...er.... Captain, the crew and I were wondering.... what part of Russia are you from....?"

and why is it that when Reeves talks, it appears he has issues similar to that of one being on a ventilator between phrases...
