    John Boy in outer space

    I just had a flash-back

Early 80's Sci Fi movie staring none other then John Boy Walton.

Costar was George Peppard-(I think) as a space cowboy.

The spaceship resembled a moose head.

Who came up with that idea ?

A bunch of drunk screen writers who just finished watching a Magnificent 7/7 Samuri marathon while vacationing in a hunting lodge in Canada.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
    Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

I remember that one...vaguely. I think I watched it on a Saturday afternoon when for some reason I was inside and not outside playing in the summer.

Battle Beyond the Stars? That was written by John Sayles.

Dude that Spaceship wasn't a moose, it had some awesome bew-bage.

I don't mind that cheapy, some of it is real fun. Robert Vaughan is playing the exact same character that he did in Magnificent Seven and using the same dialogue at times.

Corman used all the effects, props and music in Space Raiders a year or two later.

R they both out on DVD yet.

Funny movie. I saw both Battles Beyond the Star and Space Raidiers in the theater. I love the fact that John Saxton's character would replace his damaged body parts with his enemy's.

Battle Beyond the Stars!!!! WOOOOO!!!!! I love that film!

If you've never seen it, be warned: it's NOT a good film, but it is entertaining! Saw it the first time when I was a kid, and I custom'd up a bunch of Adventure People to make the characters.

                >The spaceship resembled a moose head.

Nell! And yeah, that wasn't a moose....

I liked the Nestor; the aliens that all shared a brain. (The arm bit made me laugh.)

I saw Battle Beyond the Stars at the theater when it came out. I liked it when I was a kid, don't think I've seen it since then. I do have the View-Master reels of it, though.

                        Yeah, it's nostalgia time.
Maybe not the best movie, but I enjoyed that period and its movies.

Summer of 1980, this was playing at the same theater where I saw The Empire Strikes Back multiple times. One look at the title on the marquis told me all I needed to know: "Star Wars rip-off". (Or so I believed; of course, it's nothing like it!) I've since seen and enjoyed the film many times, and have even had the pleasure of talking to John Sayles about it at a party. He told me the idea of the breast-laden ship came to him in an erotic dream. (He also told me he hand-wrote the script for The Howling on the back of James Cameron's script for Pirhana 2, but that's another story....)
