Horror Magazines - Your Current Favorite?

I was at Barnes and Noble today flipping through some of the horror magazines. Being a horror junkie (modern, classic, foreign,..) I started thinking maybe a subscription might be fun.

I looked at Horrorhound and Rue Morgue.

Does anyone here have thoughts on the current landscape of horror magazines in print? Any favorites you'd recommend? Any to avoid?

Scarlet Street was my favorite; I haven't kept up with other titles.

Which has the most "classic" focus?
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I read Famous Monsters and Shock Cinema religiously.

Friends of mine are big on gore and LOVE themselves Rue Morgue but slasher movies ain't my bag.

I fall somewhere in the middle. I'm not a gorehound, but I can tolerate it if the movie has a fun or artistic vibe. But I also love the classics.

I like Monster Bash, Monsters from the Vault, and Scary Monsters. All three are very reminiscent of the 60's-70's mags. I don't really like the revamped Famous Monsters. Too much new stuff in it.

Rue Morgue has a focus on all things horror in culture (movies, books, music, comics, etc) and I really like their depth of coverage. My guilty pleasure is the Delirium magazine by Full Moon. it's relatively terrible and just a shill for their stuff, but every issue there seems to be 1 story that's really good. Just enough to keep me coming back.

I often buy Scary Monsters and I really want to like it, but it too often is just guys rambling about their childhoods. A little of that is ok, but it's too much for me.

Kudos for starting this thread too. I could talk about horror magazines all day.

It's funny, I love reading reviews of the boom of genre titles coming to blu ray online, but somehow, seeing stuff in print validates it more. Blu Ray has been very kind to Euro Horror and trash cinema, even moreso than DVD. Companies like Arrow Video, Scream Factory, Synapse, Severin, etc. have really expanded my palette. (I've really gained an appreciation for the artistry of the Italian Giallo genre.) In person, at conventions, I've come to appreciate horror fans as some of the most accepting, friendly people in all of genre fandom circles. Weird, I know.

So yeah, looking for a catch all magazine that's not too singularly focused on blood and guts, but also the "beautiful" horror films and accomplishments in working with a low budget. Thinking Horrorhound might be for me. I'll have to give Rue Morgue another look.

darkside used to cover stuff from universal to modern day with lots of 60s/70s euro horror/giallo films i think it's the same bloke running it so it should still be the same as when i used to get it.

Ooh. That one looks like it may fit the bill. Wish I could sample an issue. Didn't see that one on the newsstand.

How's Little Shop of Horrors? I hear it's heavy on Hammer, which is my Monster Jam (no, not the trucks).
