Does anyone here collect horror antholigies? Searching for a story about plants.

Aside from the thread title, I can elaborate. I'm trying to research, online, horror and sci-fi stories featuring plants and plant-human hybrids.

I recall--very vaguely--reading a short story in an anthology when I was in Jr. High (early '80s) where a botanist created a plant from a boy who was ill or dying. I think the twist of the story was the parents' shocked realization, but I'm not positive.

Finding these themes outside of comics stuff (Swamp Thing, Poison Ivy) has been surprisingly unproductive. Some film stuff (The Thing, Body Snatchers, etc) but not much literature. I probably just don't know how to search well.

    Thanks.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

BTW, I think--again not positive--that Lovecraft's "Cool Air" might have been in the same anthology. I've tried searching that way, too.

Check out "Day of the Triffids"

1951 novel turned into a 1963 film...probably the best sci-fi horror plant story ever written.

I've seen all of the film/TV adaptations of "Triffid," I really need to read Wyndham's original book. Most of his work sounds interesting.

I loved "Day of the Triffids" from the first minute I watched it, but it had me paranoid of tall plants outdoors for a few months. LOL!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Well, this doesn't sound like your description, but there's the Vincent Price anthology, "Twice Told Tales" that has a plant story in it. Price's daughter has an illness and can never leave her garden of poisonous plants. Based on a Nathaniel Hawthorne story.

And then there's The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill from Creepshow by Stephen King, which was based on "Weeds", a short story published in Cavalier magazine in 1976. (Say, there's ol' Jordy himself in my avatar!)

Hedj, your Jordy Verrill is obfuscating every search I try, no offense I love Creepshow. The Hawthorne story (amongst so many great ones) that you're thinking of is "Rappacini's Daughter." I really like it and the filmed version is quite good. Some suggest that it inspired Poison Ivy's development.

In the original novel that The Thing is based on, Who Goes There, is "The Thing" a plant in the prose version?

"Day of the Triffids" is one of my personal favorites.
"Dr. Terror's House of Horrors" has a story with a giant plant taking over a house.
"Angery Red Planet" has a seen with a Martian plant grabbing a female. Still, so many vintage Sci-Fi films had such scenes, as they were pretty simple to do.
