Horrible flick! I watched this a few years ago and the trailer is much more interesting than the film. It really falls apart at the end like there was no budget left! I would avoid this one, samurainoir.

^^ I dunno . . . my son and I watched it when it was on Netflix years ago. It's funny, but in a way kind of the reverse of something like The Dark Knight Returns in that, rather than show how this outrageous situation would be dark and grim in real life, it would just be somehow disappointing and sad (my son was about 14 at th time and I remember him commenting about halfway through that it was funny but pretty sad when you thought about the hero and what was going on). From that perspective, it's an interesting watch.

The ending is just weird, striving somehow to be artsy and outrageous and meta . . . but I remember my son and I talked about it a lot after seeing the movie, and anything that inspires real conversation like that with the kids us is OK in my book.

the ending is an Ultraman spoof, but the funniest bits of this are over the closing credits.

That is great that you had a discussion afterwards. You are right that if it inspired conversation, that is good! I find a lot of Japanese stuff to be fairly gloomy. I was going into this thinking it would be a good comedy but it was sad. Think I had different expectations, and was bummed out when they weren't met.

That's 100% true, I agree. For everyone who hasn't seen it, it is a funny movie, but in kind of a sad way, about a guy who isn't living up to expectations or family tradition.

              Are people that naive?

I've read many of the comments there (and other Big Man videos), especially discussing the part of the archival footage with the Big Man...some people actually believe that was REAL footage of an actual giant, lol.

Holy Jesus, the planet is doomed...
