Rick giving Morgan a gun (which he keeps for some reason) has to set up something in the next episode. I'd bet that something is going to go down that makes Morgan willing and able to shoot to kill... possibly, the death of Carol.

They obviously enhanced Daryl's final scene with CG, so maybe they wanted a little more impact added to get the fans up in arms.
