    Berberian Sound Studio

Caught this last night on Netflix. Interesting concept, maybe a little too much on the artsy/abstract side for some people (including me a bit), but as a homage to Italian/British 60s/70s horror I loved it.

Also, since so much of the horror genre is based on sound and music it was fantastic to see a horror film go into so much detail into the technical aspects of recording and sound editing.

Love love love this movie. Very Polanski-esque, and loved the nod to Italian Giallo films. I've watched it three times now.

VERY - great point! I especially kept thinking of The Tenant, because both characters were foreign and excluded from everyone else. I always love when a horror movie can find new basic psychological fears to exploit - rather than just be about survival.

Interesting, I might have to check this out.

It's weird, because although one of my favorite '70s horror movies is set in Italy ("Don't Look Now") and I'm a big fan of '70s Italian prog rock (which is somewhat associated with the genre), I'm not really a big giallo fan. Just too gory for me, usually.

Speaking of Ghost Box, I really like how they use some of those freaky occult-themed UK '70s children's shows as a point of inspiration. I'm a big fan of those things (Children of the Stones, Sky, Raven, etc.).

Good call on "Don't Look Now" - another British/Italian horror. This movie is a lot more like that than a Giallo movie. They reference gore, but you never see it.

Exactly. And especially the end, when our boy switches identity, to a point.

If you wanna see "modern Giallo" check out The Strange Colour of Your Bodies Tears. It's a bit tedious at times, but interesting enough to warrant a viewing.
