If I were DC I might be a bit worried.

Just caught the 2nd release trailer for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I was reading posts on several sites and I'm amazed how off the wall people are on this movie. I really thought there would have been more about Ben in his Bat duds, but that died pretty quickly. I personally never thought Justice League would be as good as Avengers. Other than Arrow, few things DC has done have impressed me. Now it looks like Marvel is taking a 3rd rate team comic and may hit it out of the park. With the Defenders coming to Netflix supposedly, by the time JL hits it may not even rate in the top 3 if it's not awesome. That's not even considering the FF reboot. I don't really agree with the casting choices on that and can we please stop the etnicity and race changes on characters. I can't deny Samuel Jackson works as Fury but Johnny Storm was a snot nosed, cocky, white kid. And unfortunately Jessica Alba will be emblazened in my mind forever in that tight blue uniform. And I'm in no hurry for that image to depart. All I can say is I'm off to the pet store to purchase a pet raccoon that I will dress in a space suit and attach an electronic firing laser blaster to for the next Con I attend. I've already carved a face in a tree so he'll have a place to relax and feel at home.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

The first Guardians trailer got a great response in front of both Cap 2 and Spider-Man 2. Now, given, that's the audience they are after, BUT, it was clearly not a bunch of hardcore comic nerds who knew fairly obscure characters like most of us do. I think you may be right.

With all due respect, nothing about Guardians of the Galaxy or any other film being successful affects the production of Batman vs. Superman or a Justice League film when/if it gets made.

Case in point, Iron Man was a good movie and did well at the box office, but The Dark Knight was arguably a better film and it did more business at the box office. Both films thrived and succeeded monetarily and creatively to a greater degree than many expected.

I can understand not having a lot of faith in Warner Bros. interpreting the DC characters on the big screen. As successful as the Nolan Batman films were, it was a version of Batman, not the Batman of the comics. While I liked the film overall, Man of Steel was a mixed bag, not the home run fans wanted and Green Lantern was a home run swing that missed by a mile.

There is no doubt Marvel's heroes are being better represented on the big screen. Part of that is because Marvel Studios only produces Marvel films. Warner Bros. puts out a whole slate of films, one being Godzilla, which did really well in its opening weekend along with its super hero films.

Though the fact that Fox has the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four and Sony has the rights to Spider-Man, means those character won't be intermingling with the Avengers crew, it does mean those studios focus on those characters while Marvel focuses on others. If Marvel had the rights to Spider-Man, FF and the X-Men, there may have not been as many solo films for IM, Cap and Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy may have never even been considered for a film.

There is no way DC is ever going to match Marvel in terms of number of super hero films under the current setup and likely breadth of characters to make it to the silver screen. Marvel/Fox/Sony has too much of a head start.

But, that does not necessarily mean good DC films won't be made. To me it's a good sign that Warner moved the Batman-Superman movie back a year. Maybe the extra year will allow them to work out all the kinks. Maybe it will allow them to shoot a JLA movie back-to-back as has been rumored.
