David Cronenberg has made many types of films, but all of them are unmistakably Cronenberg. Oh yeah, that exhibit made me want to revisit a lot of Cronenberg's films. That's when I realized I only have two of his on DVD or Blu-ray, I have to remedy that.

Marilyn Chambers was really good in Rabid, hell I was a fan of hers since I first found my dad's VHS of Insatiable when I was a teenager. She was awesome, I was sad to hear that she passed away a while back.

It was fun watching RABID afterwards. I forgot how funny that Santa scene was. and Marilyn Chambers was actually pretty awesome in this movie.

Awesome, Ed comes through with some pics. If I still had an infant child, I would have totally bought one of those "Long Live the New Flesh" onesies (sp?) for the baby to wear. Should have bought a Civic TV t-shirt (probably way over priced though)

Oh man - that was GREAT!

The transportation pod from "The Fly" was absolutely stunning. That was a real highlight for me too!

One really interesting detail was the fact that Cronenberg wanted the pod design to be inspired by the Ducati motorcycle engine design. They had an engine on display along with the pod to show that off - (these aren't images from the show, but it should give you an idea):

Yesterday I attended this exhibit with Samnoir and Brazoo. It was awesome! Very well laid out with knowledgeable guides leading us through each Cronenberg film, from STEREO (1970) to COSMOPOLIS (2012). Memorbilia (props, costumes, promotional material, script pages, etc) were displayed for each film, with a special separate section that had tons of props from NAKED LUNCH. My favourites were an actual teleportation pod prop from THE FLY (if I were rich, I'd want one of these in my house) and original audience preview survey forms from a test screening of VIDEODROME with comments like "IT SUCKED!" and "Absolutely disgusting!" Hey, that's my favourite Cronenberg film they were talking about!

Cronenberg was also doing a book signing that day (looong line!). Didn't get a book, but we got to gawk at him from afar. Unfortunately they didn't allow photography inside the exhibit (apparently they are thinking of touring this, and didn't want anyone to "ruin the surprises") or I would have grabbed some shots. I'd highly recommend this exhibit to anyone who is a fan of at least some of his films.

I'm a big fan of his movies and was very impressed that he was brave enough and capable of putting Naked Lunch on the big screen. Beautifully disturbing.

Also, got to see the Bowie Exhibit today.
Folks, if you can, see it. It is incredible.

Caught that last week, I'm only a fan of certain eras of Bowie, but man was it a great retrospective. Wednesdays are cheap nights to see it, but probably worth the extra $$$ to not have to fight crowds. Given the upcoming exhibitions, I opted to get an AGO membership.

The special panels are amazing.

Opening night was a retro on Dead Ringers with Cronenberg and Irons, then the next night there was an evening with Irons also in the city.

Got my tickets today for the Exhibit, a special Videodrome screening, and the Dangerous Method movie/panel discussion. Also, got to see the Bowie Exhibit today.
Folks, if you can, see it. It is incredible.

Yeah, I think the peak of the walkouts happened during that one particular kissing scene when I saw the movie. The coolest thing about seeing that film in the theatre was that after it was over, you had to get in your car and drive home. The perfect end to that experience (I guess especially if you witnessed or got into a car accident on the way home, man that would really mess you up!)

That's a great point! It was absolutely a movie that sat with me afterwards. I know it's not going to be for everyone though. I had never noticed Elias Koteas in anything before and he was such a stand out. Also, the I thought the Howard Shore minimal score was fantastic - years later and I can still recall it.

Of course with almost the whole theatre empty there had to be 4 lunkhead 20 year-old dudes in front of us and all 4 had to voice their disgust every single time something homo-erotic happened. 4 loud groans of disapproval EVERY SINGLE TIME. Ugh. We get it guys. Shaddap!

Cool, the exhibit goes on from Nov 1 - Jan 19, I'm sure I'll be able to have a chance to go check it out sometime in that time frame. Sounds interesting!
