Halloween Tree is on at 8 am Saturday oct. 26 on Boomerang. Animated adaption of the Ray Bradbury story that's a fun adventure but also a lesson on the origins of Halloween traditions from around the world.
Dear Dracula, a one hour computer animated adaptation of a very good children's book/graphic novel is on Sunday Oct. 27 at 2 pm central on the Cartoon Network. Animation isn't great, but the story is fun for children and more than tolerable for light-hearted adults. Marion Ross voices the grandmother.Last edited by madmarva; Oct 22, '13, 9:20 PM.Leave a comment:

^Yeah, they REALLY need to rename that. Even "London After Midnight: A Recreation" would work. It's kind of wrong to sell it like it's the real thing, in any way. Robert Osbourne mentioned it in the intro to "Mark of the Vampire" the other night, so they do acknowledge it's a recreation from stills and the published book...but tell my DVR that!

No, it's a recreation with stills. Every year I get fooled by it...Leave a comment:

The London After Midnight mentioned above, surely this CANNOT be the long-lost Lon Chaney/Tod Browning original??Leave a comment:

^ It is the reconstruction. TCM has shown it in the past. They show a lot of silent films on Sunday nights. It's not like watching the actual movie, but it gives you a good idea what it would be like.Leave a comment:

October 20th TCM London After Midnight. That has to be the reconstruction of using photostills and original script. put together in a "film format". Last known copy of the actual film was destroyed in a fire at the studio back in 1967.Last edited by MegoFan67; Oct 5, '13, 3:09 PM.Leave a comment:

The designs for the characters in MMP are excellent, Jack Davis I believe. The stop-motion animation is great and the sets are top notch, too. I enjoy the voice characterizations. I like the Jimmy Stewart-like guy for the hero, but after the initial setup, the movie just drags until Kong shows up at the end.
I watch it every year, but the story is lacking. I always doze off in the middle, which isn't bad. I'll take my naps when I can get them.
I'd love to see a cut of it that works as well as the better Rankin Bass Christmas specials.Leave a comment:

^It took my kids a while to warm up to MMP?, but my daughter asks to watch it out of Halloween season now, so mission accomplished.
We have this discussion every year it seems, but it definitely could use some editing to remove "the padding", but the need for extra theatrical material makes sense.

MMP was originally a TV special, like Rudolph.
But Rankin-Bass was on a roll, so they decided to make it a theatrical. This required padding the story for runtime, so they wedged in the Yetch material with the cook and whatnot.
If you remove the padding, it's on par with the R-B Christmas TV specials.

Re: IFC and Sundance. I've been working on those. FX Movies seems to have a nice mix, too.Leave a comment:

My wife HATES MMP, the kids torment her because of that and crank up some of the clunkier ballads.Leave a comment:
