    Monster Blu-Ray releases

Dracula Prince of Darkness, as well as Universal's Frankenstein, Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein and Wolfman are going to be released on Blu Ray Sept. 17.

I bought the Universal set last year, but can't wait to see Chris Lee's Dracula on Blu Ray

I never took the dive on the Universal Blu Ray boxset because I was waiting for the price to drop. And boy has the boxset price dropped. Universal product has been rereleased so much through the years, it was inevitable. And I have to admit too, I was concerned about what they did to mess with the video quality. Sometimes high def betrays the charm of old films. There's something to be said for the crackle and pop of an old vintage movie. But I haven't read any reviews that suggests anything was lost with the Universal transfers, so I'll have to pick that up soon. But Hammer stuff tends to be a little more limited, so I may have to take the dive on the Prince of Darkness right away without waiting on those reviews. It's campy charms can not be outdone by high def... I don't think. On an off note, I hope we get Salem's Lot on Blu Ray soon too.

Tom, I really like the Universal Blu-Ray set. I actually got the UK Region Free version for a third of the original US price, and the films look FANTASTIC. The transfers are great, and you suddenly see details lost to time since probably the very first screenings, or perhaps NEVER before seen. Black blobs become shadows with depth. If it wasn't for the other films Uni has yet to release, I'd chuck my Legacy DVDs for sure.

^ I bought the same set you did, Chris, when the price dropped. I've enjoyed the quality, too. Dracula is my least favorite of the films, but in the early scenes at his castle there was even more going on with those wonderful sets than I had noticed before.

Just the idea of Hi-def Hammer has me sold on Prince of Darkness, and mid-September release is perfect timing for Halloween.

^Yes! I feel the same about Dracula. Love Bela, but the movie drags badly when he's off screen. The castle stuff was spectacular on the Blu-Ray.

I'm up for any and all Hammer!

I want the restored version of Horror of Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein that came out in the UK.

I can't believe that I haven't bought the box set yet. I'm dying to see Creature in 3D. Will the US Blu-ray of the Hammer Dracula have the restored Japanese footage that the UK BD has? If not, that's something else I'll have to get from Amazon UK.

I saw these restored prints of Frankenstein and Dracula in the theatre last October, and I must say, they looked fantastic.

This was the route I took too. Great set.
