They were talking about this on ESPN radio Mike and Mike this morning and I was thinking "what the hell". If you want to see a truly amazing Shark movie, watch The Reef. It makes open water look like a Disney movie. It's more terrifying then Jaws by a long shot.

>I like bad movies but only the ones that tried to be good ones and failed. That's the secret spice.
Usually; but sometimes somene goes so over the top intentionally making a bad.... or perhaps "genre bound" is the better term.... film that they end up producing something worth perusing. I'd cite "Kung-Fu Hustle" as an example: it's not A Kung-Fu movie, it's ALL Kung-Fu movies. I kinda hope this one is like that. It's on tonight, but I won't get a chance to see it until tomorrow or Sunday.

Nah. I'm happy with the chain-shark bit.

I fail to see the connection between KFH and this trash. KFH was an overblown cartoon but it was really fun and well made.

That's what I'm HOPING this is. Althouth the well made bit is optional. Most of their other stuff starts with an insane idea like this, and then we get two hours of barely-been celebrities pretending to act, with one scene of a shark eating a jet. This one looks like it has more of the bizarre action. I hope. The chainsaw bit is great. Having a giant shark dropped on you is too. (Well.... not to the person who got dropped on I guess....) If it's mostly that kind of thing I'm happy.
They kinda show a lot of scenes of people looking concerned though. That worries me. But hey; it's essentially free. (I got similar concerns for Pacific Rim.) And we can rejoice that there's gonna be so much material for "Mystery Science Theater 4000." (Which I believe is called "Rifftrax." I keep forgetting that. It's a grand time to be alive!)

I'm in full agreement, but I can't help getting a small kick out of the trailers. I never even got around to the new parahna movies. I enjoy the trailers but can't be bothered with the movies. Unintentially funny is way funnier to me.Comment

So;
I ACTUALLY watched this, and my overall review is a "meh." It's not good, but it's not irredeemably bad either. I've long had the opinion that Syfy has been trying to create the modern equivalent of the 80's direct to video experience with these productions, and this one comes pretty close. In good and bad ways. To that end, if you're a fan of cheesy old monster movies, and this is on you might want to watch. Maybe. If you've got nothing else going on.
Details to follw, as well as some spoilers. It's tough to discuss without ruining some surprises.
>I like bad movies but only the ones that tried to be good ones and failed.
That's the trick to a classic B; and this one seems to straddle that line. A lot of it seems like they're putting stuff in 'cos they think it'd be cool, a lot of it feels like they're putting stuff in 'cos you're obliged to with this sort of movie. On the UP-side, they do one thing COMPLETELY right: they don't waste a lot of time on the story or characters. They know you know who these characters are, what their deal is, their backstory, etc.... so they give you JUST ENOUGH so you can go; "oh, there's the wacky guy, there's the slacker, there's the bitter one...." then they get back to the action. I wish more big budget films did that. In don't need an hour introducing me to Maverick, Goose and Iceman. (I'm looking at YOU; Battleship. And Battle LA. And hopefully not Pacific Rim....)
The action is insane. If you're the kind who's bothered by physics and biology being twisted 'til they cry.... well, you probably shouldn't be watching a film called "Sharknado" to begin with. Again, as a plus they did things I've never seen before. Shotgunning sharks out of the air, the plan to save the day is an excuse to blow stuff up like no other, and while the movie DOES have a happy ending.... which normally makes ne heave in films like this, how they GET to it made me giggle. The film moves along pretty quickly.... something a lot of the other cheesy Syfy stuff doesn't do. Any time they stop for a character bit it lats a few munites, then they LITERALLY start throwing sharks at people. And they go through characters like "Feast" did.
The effects are pretty bad, and the film makes use of a fair amount of stock footage. I'm not sure if that's an hommage to the source material, or they just didn't have the money and permits for the scenes. It's CGI; not really GOOD CGI but not heinously bad CGI. (It's no "Birdemic." But what is?) There are a couple of scenes that would have been really neat had they used better effects; the IDEA was interesting, the execution sorta passable. (The ferris wheel comes to mind.)
I can't rate it too high, 'cos it is pretty stock. It's passably competent; a BIG step up from their usual stuff, and unlike a lot of other Syfy stuff it fulfils the promises made by the ads. (If you like the ad, you might like the film. If you didn't like the ad ypou're probably not reading this review anyway.) So while I don't feel I wasted two hours of my life having sat through it, I also feel no need to see it again.
"Megasharktopussurricane" ont he other hand.... mmmaaayyyyybbbeeee....

The Sci-Fi movies remind me of those old Drive-In movies or the straight to vhs movies. I sorry but I love watching monster clash movies, always have and always will. I really like how Sci-Fi gets you ready for there new movie by showing 4-5 movies that center around the new movie. This time we got to see "Sharks gone Wild". It's crazy fun and you really do not have to put a lot of thought in these movies, they are the true popcorn movies.Visit my wiki site:

I ended up catching a little more then half of Sharknado after all. It was surprising sincere. At least as sincere as most old drive-in monster movies with crazy gimmicks or wild titles. I'm not compelled to finish watching it any time soon, but I wanted to admit I was wrong about it.Comment
