Metaluna Mutant: Is he wearing pants or not?

I was always unsure about this: is he wearing pants, or is it part of his body?

It looks like pants (the folds and all, and the belt), but the veins make it look organic.

    So what is it?

They are a biosynthetic "material" permanently bonded to the mutant's bodies. In addition to covering their enormous mutant bug junk, they also serve to prevent unathorized breeding within the population, since you don't want your mutant bug slaves fooling around and reproducing.

Wow, you sure know your way around Metaluna!
Is this explained somewhere in a documentary? It makes sense...

Also thanks for using the phrase "enormous mutant bug junk". I never thought I'd ever hear that...
I'll also never get the image of Metaluna Mutants fooling around out of my head now. Oh man...

I always thought that somehow the legs of the costumes had a wardrobe malfunction, and the costume department decided to go with "pants" to get the movie done.
To me, it would have seemed logical to make legs similar to the arms (scaly, like a crustacean). That would, of course, have posed the problem: what are we going to do with his enormous mutant bug junk!

Honestly, I always thought it was creepy-cool that they were belted slacks but organic. You know it was a design cop-out, but it ended up working.

Does anyone else think his noggin looks like a stewed tomato?

After first watching MST3K: The Movie (and several times since then!), I've never been able to watch This Island Earth like I used to, my innocence has been lost.

I'm really enjoying this insightful study of alien pants.
Can we make it a sticky thread?
