This is one of the best horror movies to come around in a long time. Along with Trick 'r Treat and Insidious, it's one of the new classics for me.

Trick 'r Treat was great! It may have came out on dvd just before the last dvd rental store closed in my area. Cant believe it was a straight to dvd release. It was held up forever trying to get distribution if I remember right(?). One of my new Halloween favorites.

Fun movie. The big zombie looked a lot like Marvel's version of Frankenstein.

I don't think there was any one specific connection, but the characters followed the general teenage group of victims archetype that developed in typical late 70s and 80s American horror movies: the goonish jock, the snow white virgin, her sensitive boyfriend, the uh, more sexually liberated girl, and the nerdy dude.

If you recall, they were being sprayed with drugs (or maybe hormones or something, I cant remember now) to make them act more like their assigned pop culture inspired roll.

In my mind, the most classic example "Cabin In The Woods" is referencing is "Friday the 13th Part 3" which totally sums up every classic 80s horror cliche. Partiularly the 'pot head nerdy dude who doesnt have a chick character', though it's also clearly referencing other classics, like "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Evil Dead".

The 5 kids were clearly the Scooby Gang.
Of all the souls I have encountered his was the most...human.
