Interesting to note that his arch nemisis in fiction still lives - Christopher Lee - The Count!

^From what I understand, they were really close friends in real life.

I said in another thread, I'll watch Cushing in anything. So believable in any role...the hallmark of a truly great actor.

Absolutely. Cushing always possessed an amazing confidence in whatever role he adopted. He brought so much intensity to those parts, you couldn't turn away when he was on the screen. And yet his command of those moments was so subtle. He knew how to play off the other actors, so that his performance elevated how they looked as well. Just watching him in Star Wars is a perfect example of how he could take a seeming throw away scene and make it compelling and intimidating. Truly a unique and talented actor.

I'm a huge Hammer movie fan. Cushing was perfect. In just about everything he was in....

I read Cushing's least favorite film was the Blood Beast Terror and it's the only instance I can remember where he is clearly phoning in his performance.
There is a particular scene where they are reviewing the facts of the case or something at a table and he looks incredibly bored.
A biography of Cushing was recently released, or perhaps re-realeased, called Peter Cushing: A Life in Film.
There is a documentary film with a similar title but I can't find it on youtube right now.
Here's a a great little short showing Cushing and his toy soldiers!

His wife supposedly rolled her eyes every time he joked to her, "More Cushing for the pushing!"
                  But I digress...

Only Peter Cushing could pull off a good Dracula film WITHOUT Dracula. "Brides of Dracula" is one of Hammer's best, but without Cushing's Van Helsing, audiences would have never bought it, and it would be forgotten.

^Cushing really carried that film, butt the supporting cast is superb.

Sadly, IMO, Hammer's best vampire films do not feature Lee.
