    What's your favorite Corman/Poe film?

I've been rewatching all of these & wondering, "Which do you like best?"

It's difficult for me to choose, I enjoy them all & am a devoted Price fan.

I think Masque of the Red Death is exemplary: literate, well-appointed, great cast, with a terrific Price performance of a truly evil man: his Prospero is nuanced, but with some of that ham that I love.

Runners-up would be House of Usher (a wonderfully chilly, restrained Price, but a bit cheap) and Tomb of Ligeia (great location shooting, with Price trying to play against type).

I'm not a huge fan of the comedic ones, I'd rather just watch Dr. Goldfoot or The Comedy of Terrors.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Raven and Masque are equally good.
Strange coincidence, cause I'm watching House of Usher as we speak on MGM

May 27 is Vincent Price's birthday.

While we're remembering the sacrifices of our service personnel and perhaps enjoying a family cook-out, let's also recall the amiable Mr. Price, whose talent made Egghead eggs-ellent and Dr. Phibes abominable.

My vote is for The Terror by Roger Corman in 1963. Its a staple on our local cables Spooky Movie.
2 greats, 1 at the end of his career and the other just starting.

The Pit and the Pendulum. Price is wonderfully hammy in it.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Haunted Palace is fantastic, I wish AIP had done more Lovecraft films. I'm with you, Dwayne, in loving the score--Les baxter reworked a bit of Brahms for it & it is great.

The Raven and House of Usher are a tie for me.

"Masque of the Red Death" is probably the one I remember best, and the last time I watched it I thought it was a pretty awesome movie. I should watch them all again.

How many where there - 5?

                      Properly, seven:

                      House of Usher
                      The Pit & the Pendulum
                      Tales of Terror (anthology)
                      The Raven
The Premature Burial (w/ Ray Milland)
The Haunted Palace (this is really Lovecraft's "the Case of Charles Dexter Ward")
The Masque of the Red Death
                      The Tomb of Ligeia

A few other films--City Beneath the Sea (War-Gods of the Deep), Conquerer Worm (Witchfinder General), & The Oblong Box--were marketed by AIP as "Poe" films, but really aren't.

Okay - that's great! I've seen Usher, Pit, Raven and Masque, but I'm going to re-watch them now for sure!

House of Usher and Masque of Red Death jump to kind. House of Usher scared the crap out of me when I was as kid.

I'd have to say Pit and the Pendulum is my favorite, although Masque of the Red Death is pretty amazing. They all have their merit and interesting/enjoyable points to various degrees. I really enjoy Lorre in Tales of Terror and The Raven. One of my prized movie collectibles is an original Masque lobby card that I got Corman to sign a few years ago. It features Hazel Court drinking from a chalice at the altar of Satan!
