Dawn of the Dead is never on TV because... you should have you own copy!!!!

The Anchor Bay ultimate edition has 3 cuts of the film, the Euro extra gory version does not have that much extra gore.
Romero has stated that the main reason that the film does not end with the Helicopter suicide is that effect did not look very good once they filmed it.
The zombie getting the top his head sliced off by the chopper blade is in both the US and European versions of the film.
If you can't tell, I'm a huge Dawn of the Dead fan

It's an alternative ending that was filmed but never shown in any versions of the film.
In the movie as know it, Fran and Peter are in the helicopter and fly off as zombies flood onto the roof. But there was a different ending where they both decide that they don't want to live anymore..... very grim. The director Romero has talked about it but no film of this ending exists.
I like the ending as it is, with them flying into an unknown future.

Not too many of these old Cult horror movies are ever on these days. I remember the superstation and amc having a sort of creature feature thing on Saturday nights.

Yeah, the "suicide ending" was in the original script, but not in any version of the film. I prefer the US theatrical cut, which is actually Romero's preferred cut IIRC. But I also enjoy seeing the extra scenes in the extended version. The Euro cut, edited by Dario Argento (as producer, he had the right to final cut on the European version) has I think one extra gore scene, but it's missing a bunch of footage, and the music is different (more Goblin music, not to greater effect actually, and less of the stock, library sourced music, much of which actually works well in the US version). It's faster paced, but not as good as the US theatrical cut IMO.

I think Dawn of the Dead looks dated, more so than Night of... does. It's like the 1977 King Kong. It doesn't seem as timeless anymore.
