    Mighty Joe Young

Was watching Mighty Joe Young on TCM's last night

I forgot how much I always liked it --- dare I say, even more than King Kong

Kong is "ok" but kinda drags it's *** until the ending

Strange, but I swear I was going to watch this today (on DVD) but watched some Twilight Zone instead. I have the King Kong boxset w/ this and Son of Kong and while I know I've watched it before, it's been a few years. I'll have an all "Kong" day tomorrow and post my thoughts after.

It's also more kid-accessible than King Kong, for both the plot and the ending (I always refer to Mighty Joe Young as the "Happy Ending Version" of King Kong). I remember my kids really liking it the first time I showed it to them when they were smaller.

Sorry, forgot about this thread. I did watch it, and then I watched it again with Harryhausen and the female lead (I forget her name now) doing the commentary. It has it's moments but nowhere near as good as King Kong. Kinda like King Kong lite. One part that I wish had of been included that was in the original storyboard was a scene in the nightclub where MJY picks up a lion and throws it in a big tank of water with a shark in it. Cut for being too violent.

also, I kinda missed the fuzzy movement of the fur that Kong had. FYI the movement of Kong's fur was purely by accident and a buy product of the stop motion animation. However that really impressed the movie execs who thought it was intentional to give the fur an air blown effect. Maybe you have to hear Ray tell the story, I could listen to that man all day. You can really tell he's a kind hearted soul who really really loves what he does (did).

Although I own it, I've never watched Son of Kong, but I'm going to try to watch that one this week. Anybody seen it?
