I vote both but ...... is it a horror movie with a sci-fi tone or a sci-fi with a horror tone? I see it as more sci-fi with horror elements in it then a horror movie with sci-fi elements.

Instead of being trapped in a farmhouse fighting off zombies,they are trapped on a spaceship fighting off aliens.Classic horror plot.Its set in the future,in space with Alien"monsters"and on a spaceship which is Sci-fi. So its both,Sci-fi/horror.Comment

It's classic Scifi, with some scary scenes in it. I wouldn't call it a horror movie.
Now The Sound of Music, that's a horror movie....

so for those who consider it horror, did you think the sequels were horror films too? where does the series diverge? I mean, Aliens is about space marines kicking Alien *** and getting eaten in the process. Scary? sure, bit in the same sense that Starship Troopers was scary when the aliens attackedComment

I think it is a a great movie. Period. If taxonomy is your thing.....you can obsess over it all day and not get anywhere. But if I were arranging DVDs by genre, I would put it in sci-fi....just my two cents.Comment

If forced to choose, I'd call it horror, but I think it's both. It's similar to Jaws, which I'd call horror / adventure.Comment
