Frankenstein The True Story: 1973 NBC two part movie.

I was 9 years old when this aired in '73. Billed as a faithful adaptation of the novel, it falls short of this claim. I remember being so excited at the idea of a new version of Frankenstein. I was so impressed with this version that it quickly became one of my favorites over the years.
Recently purchased this movie on DVD for $3. I fully expected to be crushed that the movie would not live up to my memory. So few do.
Over 3 hours long, this movie stood out after all these years. Since it was set up in two parts, my wife and I watched it over a couple of nights. If you're a fan of Hammer-style horror films, this is a must see. All I can say is, I'm so happy to finally add this wonderful movie to my DVD collection.

    Hmmmm....

Yeah; I HAD to snag this one on disk. It's pretty good, different from the book but WAY cool.

I remember this one well. It was pretty cool.
(But yeah, it's really no more accurate to the novel than most other film versions have been.)

All I still remember is him being on the ship in the artic standing there holding the wheel.

I seem to recall that movie. It was pretty graphic for it's day if memory serves. Isn't that the one where he pulls off the head of Elizabeth? I seem to recall an image like that. Didn't the bodies soak in these huge vats of liquid like the Hammer films?

              It wasn't Victor's wife.

Yes. There is a real 'Hammer' feel to the whole movie.

I'm a sucker for anything that has that Hammer vibe to it. I'm in.

That would be a great find at Big Lots. I'll definitely have to look for it.

                      Amazon's got it for under $5. :D
It's hard for me to fathom, why some critics call this classic "Campy". It begs me to imagine, what they have to say of all the Classic Hammer Horror films.
Sure it's got style, a groovy style, and power that just won't stop...wait...that was 'Hong Kong Phooey'. Never mind. lol

^I think a lot of modern critics consider anything old "campy". If it didn't have a $150 million budget, it's campy.

If I'm not mistaken, campy actually means it's so bad, it's unintentionally funny. So something like Al Adamson's "Frankenstein vs. Dracula" is campy. Ed Wood's output is campy.

Adam West Batman is not actually campy; it's a spoof or satire. It was intentionally made for you to snicker and roll your eyes at.

Thanks E2 Chris, I hope you get a chance to see this movie soon. I'm hoping you will see why I consider 'Camp' to have nothing to do with it. It's full screen mono made for TV, but the story is fantastic and really delivers a lasting impression.

I remember the story being pretty shocking to me as a kid. Of course I was only in third grade. But from what I remember it seemed like a really good movie. I saw it many years later in the late 70's and it held up really well.
