    Rifftrax thread

Been watching a lot of rifftrax lately, between this and CT, it's an embarrassment of riches for MST3K fans right now. Fallen really behind on their VOD movies, so i picked one up last week:

    Revenge of Dr X

I've never heard of this movie from 1970 but it's written by Ed Wood, co-produced by Toei and has a Venus fly trap monster in it. How bad can it be?

    Terrible!

The opening credits state it stars John Ashley, Angelique Pettyjohn and was directed by Eddie Romero. That got my attention, turns out they just weirdly reused some "Blood Island" credits. The movie is about an unlikable Nasa scientist called Dr Bragin, who goes to Japan to relax but instead builds a giant plant monster. None of it makes sense, half the cast can barely speak english and the music seems to be borrowed from old cartoons.

The rifftrax keeps you sane in this one, wow it's weird. Even a barrage of topless women seemed bland and uninteresting.

    Anybody else watch rifftrax lately?

Man I love all things MST3K, Ritrax, and CT but I have watched very little of the latter 2. I saw a live show at Dragconcon a coupel of years ago by the CT cast and it was fantastic.

Of all the films I've seen by them, this one is their best:

Santa Claus meets the Ice Cream Bunny

A weird, cheap, bit of kiddie exploitation from the 1970s. It's one of those thrown together movies you'd sit through in the mall while your parents shopped.

The riffing combined with the absurdity of the movie just makes for gold. I watched this with a head set at the airport, anybody who could see my screen must have thought I was insane or a little slow.

I haven't followed Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic much - but I probably should try to catch up a bit. I was more of a MST3K fan when Joel was on - so Rifftrax didn't interest me as much - but "Revenge of Dr X" looks incredible! I kinda want to watch that without the 'trax' though too.

Picked up this one over the weekend.

            Warriors of the Wasteland

Now I own two copies of this. It's my least favorite of the Italian post nuke genre. It's pretty much the Road Warrior Italian style but the post nuclear world looks like well maintained roads and country side, as well everybody looks well fed and showered. I've always grown restless through this one, so the rifftrax motivated me to finish it. Glad I did, the guys have fun with it.
