I remember a late 80s issue of Model & Toy Collector that showed a pic of Hammet purchasing a dog-eared copy of Batman #1. Knowing he was a geek made me like Metallica that much more.
This sounds like a good read. I'd like to see more books like this. The celebrity angle just adds to it.
Yeah, I used to think it was cool when Bill from MTC used to tell me Hammett was on the other side of call waiting in the 80s. I was a huge fan of the band at that time, so it was neat to have a link.
Abrams is a great publishing house, I did some photography for them two years back, they rejected "Rack Toys" but it was reluctantly and handled with class. Can't say the same for others.

I remember seeing a picture of Hammett in an old metal magazine, where he was surrounded by some of his toys including a Kenner Alien and some Shogun Warriors.
Just got to rifle through it, it's pretty great. Not thrilled with the duplicity of items/similiar shots from Rack Toys but that's my problem not anybody elses. Lots of stuff that I could never, ever, afford and that's pretty swell.

Whoa, this book and this thread went completely under my radar, I want this. Ordering now! Nice Misfits song reference in the title of the book too, I like it.

Yes, I vividly remember that pic too, and was thrilled to see that Kirk was "one of us". Wish I still had that mag, I don't even remember which one it was in, I bought so many metal mags back then. "Rip" perhaps?
I almost forgot about this but luckily I remembered just in time before leaving the bookstore (30% off HC's at Chapters). I waited till my wife was on diaper duty and then settled in to read. I gotta admit I skipped to the toy section first, but overall it looks like a really cool book. I think I might savour this one over a few days.
