Many a fan have been waiting for this day to come. And the results did not disappoint. Jaws has been remastered and restored frame by frame and now has SIX TIMES the resolution in the Blu-ray format. The results speak for themselves. Every scene is rich in detail and the sound is remastered in DTS-HD. The film looks and sounds like it was shot last week. Just an amazing accomplishment. Everything about the improvements are noticeable from the very start when the camera is cutting through the seaweed, as you hear the depths of the ocean behind John Williams crisp, pulsating theme. It's like watching the movie brand new all over again.
The special features alone will take you half a day to watch. The highlight of course being the long awaited release of the documentary entitled "The Shark is still working: The Impact & Legacy of Jaws". I had heard so much about this documentary beforehand and was surprised at some of the facts I was never aware of, after watching it. One of which was the artist that actually painted the Iconic cover for the paperback book, GAVE it to Universal. Of course this went on to be the poster for the film and what the world now associates with the movie. Ouch... I bet he would like to have that back. The greatest piece of history revealed though is the footage of Bruce actually attacking the Kitner boy. You see the footage as he raises his jaws up and consumes the boy. It's easy to see why it was kept from 70's audiences. Just as effective today as what it would have been back then. Unnerving actually. I am also happy to say our fellow Mego brother, LOU, is also represented in this documentary for both his collection and his highly popular Jawsfest videos. Well done LOU! You are now officially immortalized with the film!
But overall this is a very satisfying Blu-ray/DVD combo. For what you get, $19.99 is an absolute steal. You will not be disappointed. It is already being touted by critics as one of the best restoration jobs ever. Check it out for yourself. I think you will agree. 5 out 5 stars from this fan.
