JAWS - Blu Ray release review

Many a fan have been waiting for this day to come. And the results did not disappoint. Jaws has been remastered and restored frame by frame and now has SIX TIMES the resolution in the Blu-ray format. The results speak for themselves. Every scene is rich in detail and the sound is remastered in DTS-HD. The film looks and sounds like it was shot last week. Just an amazing accomplishment. Everything about the improvements are noticeable from the very start when the camera is cutting through the seaweed, as you hear the depths of the ocean behind John Williams crisp, pulsating theme. It's like watching the movie brand new all over again.

The special features alone will take you half a day to watch. The highlight of course being the long awaited release of the documentary entitled "The Shark is still working: The Impact & Legacy of Jaws". I had heard so much about this documentary beforehand and was surprised at some of the facts I was never aware of, after watching it. One of which was the artist that actually painted the Iconic cover for the paperback book, GAVE it to Universal. Of course this went on to be the poster for the film and what the world now associates with the movie. Ouch... I bet he would like to have that back. The greatest piece of history revealed though is the footage of Bruce actually attacking the Kitner boy. You see the footage as he raises his jaws up and consumes the boy. It's easy to see why it was kept from 70's audiences. Just as effective today as what it would have been back then. Unnerving actually. I am also happy to say our fellow Mego brother, LOU, is also represented in this documentary for both his collection and his highly popular Jawsfest videos. Well done LOU! You are now officially immortalized with the film!

But overall this is a very satisfying Blu-ray/DVD combo. For what you get, $19.99 is an absolute steal. You will not be disappointed. It is already being touted by critics as one of the best restoration jobs ever. Check it out for yourself. I think you will agree. 5 out 5 stars from this fan.

This was a no-brainer buy for me, but thanks for the enthusiastic review. It's great to read someone praising something rather than moaning about things. I know I moan too much about stuff, but it's great to feel excited and enthusiastic about a product, rather than let down.

Tom you just made me want to buy a blu ray player just for this movie. One of my all time favorites and same with my wife. I actually bought one for my wife last Christmas but it didn't work and neither did the second, so i just traded it back in for a dvd player.

Hey Mark, I think you can get pretty reasonably priced Blu ray players at Walmart or Best Buy. Sorry to hear your initial players didn't work. That sucks! I think the only regular DVD player that gets used is in our bedroom and I run all of my TV box sets on that when we go to bed at night. And that players sits on top a VHS player for stuff never converted digitally. But yes you will LOVE the Jaws Blu ray. I hope you get it.

It does give me an excuse to try again with a Blu Ray player. If i remember correctly, the one i tried was right at $100 and that is not bad at all

Walmart regularly has them for around $60.00-70.00. I am patiently waiting for this to arrive from Amazon today. I have the previous dvd release and am pretty much getting it for the Shark is Still Working doc but your review gets me interested in seeing how good this transfer is.

You know I haven't seen the movie in two decades but it's so entrenched in the pop culture of my childhood, it seems stupid not to buy it.

Wow. I just got it in the mail today. Worth every penny. "The Shark Is Still Working" was great. Loved Scheider narrating. RIP!

It's amazing how timeless and effective this film remains. Definitely a movie that can not be remade any better.

Finally watched it about a week ago with my wife. It is amazing to see how clear everything now is. They did an incredible job. And the bonus stuff was awesome. Matter of fact, it is now so crystal clear my wife made the comment that during the opening where Chrissy gets it, you can really see she is naked in the water. It was sad though to realize how many great people that were involved with it have passed.
