yeah, got that email the other day. Cool that there are a few episodes on Hulu now, too. Any dirt on why Kevin Murphy and Mike Nelson are not part of this?

      They're doing "Rifftrax."

Yeah, but were they not even asked to work on CT? I know they are doeing Riff Trax and tried out that miserable MST knock off Film Crew.

It's a good question. I don't remember hearing of any animosity amongst them. Here's some info; it kinda looks like the all just went their separate ways and very seldom keyed up afterwards:

I didn't know Frank wrote for "Invader Zim." That show was awesome!

I'm pretty sure there is something up with Mary Jo and Nelson, just not sure what.

I haven't been following the post-MST3K stuff too closely, but I actually got the idea that the two camps didn't get along. There's an interview with TV's Frank on WFMU's show "Night People" - he goes into some of the personality conflicts.

Frank explains that Joel originally left because of conflicts with Jim Mallon - and later Trace Beaulieu left for similar reasons. Frank said he left on good terms, but felt that he might have been more angry if he stayed. So, it kinda seems like the two sides are still formed by that conflict - even though I don't think Mallon is working with any of them now.

Here's a link to the podcast with that interview (just look for Frank Conniff's name in the show description on this page):

I'm googling now, and I can't see any cross-over (not even guest appearances). It seems the people who left MST3K earlier all work together on "Cinematic Titanic" (even that original Tom Servo dude) - and the people who stayed on the show now work together on "The Film Crew" and "Rifftrax".

EDIT: Mary Jo Pehl has worked on both Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic

They might be split up geographically too, which might be another factor. I could be wrong, but it seems that Joel's crew is in L.A. and Mike is in San Diego.

I don't think this works in the "live" format. The audience laughing at everything like it's the funniest thing ever, just kind of makes it like a cheesy laugh track to the gags. At least, it seems that way to me.

I couldn't disagree more, "East meets Watts" was their first live DVD and I think it improved things immeasurably.
